A million Floridians would be kicked out under Trump’s mass deportation plans, report says
  • Here's the thing: That's exactly what Trump supporters want. That's the "pain" Musk talked about.

They don't care about the cost. Money or human.

I asked a Trump supporter how they wanted to handle American citizen children of illegal immigrants and they said they wanted the children taken away and placed into Christian indoctrination programs (they didn't call it that but that's what they meant).

  • Russian court fines Google $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
  • Meh. This is but a fraction of what the big media companies think the world owes them for piracy.

  • For four hours, Christians in Georgia gathered to worship Trump. I was there.

  • Linus Torvalds reckons AI is ‘90% marketing and 10% reality’
  • As another (local) AI enthusiast I think the point where AI goes from "great" to "just hype" is when it's expected to generate the correct response, image, etc on the first try.

For example, telling an AI to generate a dozen images from a prompt then picking a good one or re-working the prompt a few times to get what you want. That works fantastically well 90% of the time (assuming you're generating something it has been trained on).

Expecting AI to respond with the correct answer when given a query > 50% of the time or expecting it not to get it dangerously wrong? Hype. 100% hype.

It'll be a number of years before AI is trustworthy enough not to hallucinate bullshit or generate the exact image you want on the first try.

  • Elon musk given warning by DOJ after breaking the law... again.
  • No. That's if he's Arab. Chinese get interned.

Or if China doesn't like them either, "returned to the homeland" where they'll be disappeared forever in one of their, "put them here until trial" black holes where people go in but they don't come out (without the right bribes/political influence).

  • Yeah! Deliver Big Ben and maybe a few other famous UK monuments to Washington, DC and we'll call it even 👍

  • Missouri Republican says he is investigating Google for ‘censoring conservative speech’
  • Well yes: At this juncture in history conservative speech is hate speech, misinformation (and disinformation), and things like AI-generated images of politicians in situations that never happened.

Actual conservative speech like bitching about the national debt or setting themselves up to get flamed with references to A Modest Proposal aren't getting censored at all.

  • Springfield woman uses tracker to find stolen election signs
  • Stealing political yard signs? No.

Marking up political yard signs? Yes.

On my way to vote today I saw a trump sign that had "FELON" and "RAPIST" graffitied on it. That's a much clearer message than if there were no sign there.

It was quite respectful, actually... It still very clearly said, "Trump/Vance" it was just given some flair and it wasn't even untrue 👍

  • summary execution rule
  • The death penalty should be reserved for people who absolutely will continue to commit great crimes (e.g. murder) even after they're imprisoned. Example: A crime boss that issues orders to have people murdered via visits from their lawyer.

Someone like that--even from within prison--has too much of a negative impact on society to be allowed to live. You can't take away their basic rights (like the right to a lawyer) so the most humane thing to do would be to end them as peacefully as possible. Otherwise you're going to allow them to continue committing crimes, racking up victims, and degrading society as a whole.

A convicted pedophile rapist will be incapable of committing that same sort of crime as long as they are imprisoned. Hence it's not necessary to execute them.

  • What's a good combination of veggies for a pizza?
  • Red Pepper + Onion + Minced Garlic has been my favorite veggie pizza for decades now. The sweeter the onion the better.

Green Pepper + Onion is a great fallback if red pepper isn't available but you'll want to go with garlic cloves instead of minced.

  • Is directly using plastic pellets a good idea?
  • Well, they put my Low-Poly Rose Twist Vase in the background so it seems legit 🤷

  • Boeing’s crisis is getting worse. Now it’s borrowing tens of billions of dollars
  • There's so many things that went wrong at Boeing, not the least of which is a lack of technical competency in upper management. However, this is how capitalism is supposed to work: Old companies make mistakes or become too big/inefficient and die while new ones rise up to replace them.

The regulations surrounding aircraft should be all that's necessary to ensure their safety... If Boeing dies that will mean loads of opportunities for new competitors to spring up and replace them.

You can't rely on a market with only two players for long; let Boeing die and break up Airbus if they abuse their resulting monopoly. If necessary, subsidize competition and treat the existing monopoly as a hostile player until there's real competition.

You may think, "but airlines are too big to fail" and to that I say, "bullshit!" There's a million ways to make safe airplanes and just as many ways to improve how Boeing was doing things. The short term will likely suck but the long term will leave us better off.

  • Trans activists release 6,000 crickets on transphobic LGB Alliance conference
  • Why would crickets end such an event? They're just crickets... They're only annoying late at night when you're trying to sleep and there's one in the house you can't find. They're not even that unsanitary.

It sounds like a lame D&D cantrip or something... "Nobody cares, Leena! I cast crickets!"

Then again, the event itself was vastly more lame and deserves crickets... And a pack of hungry anoles released at the same time 👍

  • Imagine a "woke mob": Who's in it? What do they look like? What would they do?

I've heard this phrase used often by those on the right but every time I hear it I can't help but laugh because of what I picture in my head. But perhaps my image is wrong! I want to read everyone else's depictions.

So as to not influence the responses I will not be sharing what I imagine a "woke mob" looks like.

Trying to get the hang of segmentation

It's really hard to get SD to output something like a cat girl hugging a fox girl so I decided to learn how to use the "segment anything" extension for a1111. The first results were great!

!Fox girl hugging bunny girl being hugged by cat girl

Got the trifecta: A fox girl hugging a bunny girl who was also being hugged by a cat girl.

But now I wanted to take it further: Can I get five different anime beast people's hugging? No, LOL. Now yet anyway 🤣

That's supposed to be a a fox girl, a bunny girl, a cat girl, a frog girl, and a horse girl (like Pretty Derby).

I have since learned that this "fact" isn't true... Turns out the source of that info wasn't understanding how tags work. There's actually just a lot of fanfics that include Astarion. Not necessarily for romance 🤷

    It's still hilarious though 😁

Garage door opener now uses Cherry MX Blues

Manufacturer wanted $25 (+shipping) for a replacement garage door opener wall switch. 13 minutes of printing + 5 minutes of soldering + two leftover Cherry MX Blue switches (that I'll be use) and the problem is solved 👍

Note: The wiring was slightly more involved than I thought... needed a resistor for the light (there's only two wires but it's got two functions: Light on/off and garage open/close.

If folks are interested I could make a much fancier PCB-based version with screw terminals and whatnot. It's a very trivial schematic.
