I had a friend who thought "Netflix & chill" just meant watch movies and relax, so she had it on her dating app profile and couldn't understand why she only got hookups.

I thought that's what it meant, too.
I'm old.
33 0 ReplyIt's a double entendre. It means both, but much more the "hook up" subtext.
18 0 ReplyFrom what I can find online, it originally meant what I thought it did, but quickly morphed into mainly being a hookup afterward.
9 0 ReplyIt's like the older "come inside for coffee" thing. It could be just that but much more common to use it as pretense for initiating some coitus.

I had trouble explaining to her what it meant.
4 0 ReplyI think it can mean a both - that's the great thing about a noncommittal word like chill. I think the key part is that whatever happens is casual.
But yeah would probably get a lot of hookup attention on a dating website
2 0 ReplyI don't know, I don't think of sex as chilling. Just like I don't see sport as chilling. Chilling should be more calm and less purpose-driven.
