It really depends on the biotic.
59 0 ReplyYeah. Some microbes you can't live without. Some microbes, you can't live with.
10 0 ReplyMicrobes. Can't live with em, can't live without em.
4 0 ReplyAnd some microbes you can't live without, but you also can't live with too many of them.

It's generally a good idea to take some probiotic after antibiotic treatment.
47 1 Replyyeah, getting some good biotics after killing the bad biotics!
11 0 ReplyThe problem with antibiotics is they kill the goodbiotics too. They just love killin.

Is it though? Don’t most probiotics just get destroyed by stomach acid?
Honestly if your going to take anything following a strong round of antibiotics, it’d be a fecal-matter transfusion, not oral probiotics.
4 0 ReplyNo. The biggest issue is antibiotic causing a decrease in biodiversity, and the new probiotic being unable to populate due to the advantage of the existing bacteria occupying the sacks that make them able to colonize.
Your best bet is a rigorous and never ending probiotic rich diet. I think you are barely even making progress then as well.

No. That's why eating probiotic food helps diversify your gut microbiome.
1 0 ReplyThat's why I occasionally put yogurt in my butt.

For best results, take one antibiotic concurrently with every probiotic food/drink!

I am pro some biotics, and anti other biotics. The duality of man.
40 1 ReplyEspecially when you get sick and have to take antibiotics .... I take a few more probiotics to replace all the biotics that got wiped away.

I just think biotics have a right to choose. Which is why I'm pro-biotic.
I am also a yogurt.

And then there are prebiotics, but what's a postbiotic?

"Probiotic" mostly refers to substances like yogurt that actually contain live beneficial microbes.
"Antibiotic" mostly refers to substances that are based on the ones produced by one microbe (like a Penicillium mold) to attack a different microbe (like an infectious bacterium).
So, both involve the action of microbes to help you; the difference is that one you want to cultivate in your guts, and the other you want to help fight off other microbes.
10 1 ReplyNot in Mass Effect!
