-Banned in most states
if we're talking about U.S. states, that is just not true. most states at least have to show that you intended to use them for commiting burglary.
here's a link to a page with details about laws regarding lockpicks all over the U.S., if anyone is curious.
- You can even fly with them! I do a bit of locksport for fun and have gotten quite the side eye when picking open padlocks while waiting for a plane.

  I’m old enough that when I flew as an unaccompanied minor in the early 90s, I got to go up to the cockpit to talk to the co pilot. Got some plastic wings from northwest while I was in there too.

  well yeah, can't expect cops to know the law, i mean lets be real.

The point of the lock pick set is to:
a. Get in quietly, if not quickly, and
b. Preserve the lock so it can be bolted again.
For leaving surprise cupcakes.
- I like to pick the lock to make sure there's nothing important behind the door. Then I lock it back to shoot it.

So he is the lock picking lawyer but I've only seen him lockpick. Where are the videos of him providing legal counsel?
- Your honor, my client could not have possibly broken into this place in 15 seconds. This lock takes me around 38 seconds to pick.
- I have only seen him talk about his job once, on is his defcon talk. He does some boring stuff, corporate governance iirc.

The main difference I see here is, destructive entry vs nondestructive entry.
Lockpicks are nondestructive, so there's no indication you entered opened it if it's relocked after the fact.
The shotgun? Even if you replace the door, something is going to be off.

And if you don't have that Remington 870 lockpick, you can grab one for free so long as you have a handy magnet

I feel it depends on the condition of the door around the lock. Your health will probably be better if you don't go shooting steel doors.
