Having a nation of starving people who are armed to the teeth usually doesn't end well for the ruling class.

Machines can't pick everything, so that means they need to get their families that they drove away, or set up some fancy kind of child labor force that eventually gets a conspiracy when one of the workers gets electrocuted by a fallen transformer, but nothing changes because they can't do anything but keep working.
