It’ll sport a flat camera bump
That's a weird way of saying it won't have a camera bump.
The pictures make it look like there's a slight one.
However, instead of having a flat camera bar like the rest of the Pixel 9 lineup, it’s going to be flush with the back of the phone.
It might just be more poor wording, but flush means no bump of any kind.
Agreed. I wouldn't call it flush, but it is 99% of the way there. A little bezel around the lens is probably helpful to limit getting a scratch that being totally flush anyway.
Oh cool, they added color to the area that gets covered by a case
Oh transparent case (with bump edges) all the way for me. They go a little yellow after some time so need replacing.
They allow you to see dust buildup which I unfortunately discovered on my last phone starts to cause lots of little micro scratches over time.
My wife decorated the back of her phone with stickers and got a clear case over it, looks pretty neat
I have a few cheapy cases. I have a dark one for when I need to look nicer so the phone doesnt stand out. I've got a clear one (white phone) and I've got a bright red one as well. The red one is extra grippy and the brightest color and I use that one when I'll be in the woods or taking a lot of pics so I don't drop it, and if I do it will stand out. All cases around $10 and have kept my phone looking nice. I've also printed out cool backgrounds like a Samauri Jack one that I threw under the clear case on my old phone, but the ink eventually stained the case.
Having to replace them is why I don't like them, just seems wasteful.
Remember when we didn't put cases on phones? I kind of wish that trend would come back. Some phones are absolutely gorgeous and slapping an ugly case on it just ruins it.
One of the problems is that phones are so goddamn thin and slippery nowadays that it's hard to grip them without.
You mean that making phones that are heavy, slippery, breakable glass all around isn't the greatest design choice and that we have invented more durables, lightweight, shock resistant materials we use to make phones with but we have stopped doing that just for profit? Hum... 🤔
If they weren't all so slippery these days. And heavy.
Caseless for the 4 years I’ve had this phone. Just don’t be reckless with it and don’t let your kids play with it.
Should we call this trend the Iphonification?
which part do you mean?
I know all phones basically look the same nowadays, but those pics really did remind me of this classic
I see what you mean. I personally found the camera bump design they have on the Pixels pretty ugly tbh.
In general, whenever a phone has a huge camera bump, it seems to essentially require that you put a case on it. Otherwise it rocks all over the place when you try to lay it flat. Idk.
Still haven't brought back the 3.5 mm headphone jack? And is that big battery replaceable (i.e. without anything stupid like ungluing it from the delicate touchscreen)?
Any coverage that omits these things is garbage IMO.
The black and white versions look OK, but the red and blue look really odd.
Been waiting for either 8a to drop in price or for 9a to come out. My old phone is 10 years old and barely hanging on, so hopefully grapheneOS adds support for 9a rather quickly.
My old phone is 10 years old
Props to you. That's some value you got. I got 5 out of my last one with Lineage and thought I was doing well.
Eh, I have a pixel 7 that I upgraded to from a Galaxy S10 in early 2024 and I dunno, it doesn't feel that great. Hard to get hype for yet another phone model.
I kind of like the color selection. Looks sharp. Would prefer some more definition or rather distinction from the iPhone.
I hope people boycott Google and Apple phones this year. Hail Korean Phones.
Even though sadly google still underneath it all like a stalker. :(
