Guessed as much with the wave of censorship many people, including myself, noticed and shared, pretty much exclusively to anti-MAGA opinions, and regardless of them being constructive and objective.
That, and the increase in bot activity in european and canadian subreddits, to the point it felt there were more pro-MAGA's demotivating and belittling people trying to make a change, than actual europeans or canadians.
It's one thing to not agree with my opinion, it's a-ok with me and everyone has a right to it. I even agree with moderating extreme and violent statements when necessary. It's another thing entirely to censor my opinion because you don't like it. And on a forum like Reddit that's inadmissible.
Nuked my account, changed to Lemmy and never looked back. And I'm happy for it. If you can't take my opinion without trying to take my voice away I'll just leave you alone in your echo chamber.
While I obviously support and use lemmy:
You DO realize that lemmy has even fewer protections against bots and no vetting of instance owners (or even mods on those instances), at all, right? The big difference is that there won't be a news post about "special interests" controlling discourse on here.
If instance owners do not want to vet their users behavior if other instances speak up, the instance that is misbehaving gets defederated from the rest. That's the power of federated services.
I disagree. While small bot attacks won't ever be detected, a large-scale manipulation of votes would be obvious and easily countered
Yeah, I ran into the same issues. Don’t try and have any kind of opinion that isn’t the one echoing throughout the comments. The mods can’t even follow their own damned rules.
Glad you are here!
There are instances of heavy-handed mod and admin actions here, but they are often held to account, generally on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com. Moderation disputes often end up discussed from a third party perspective on !fediverselore@lemmy.ca.
It is an echo chamber here too, but I have seen more often that opinions against the "narrative" getting -10 or lower but not censored. Some double down, are flamebaiting or downvote farming for unknown reasons, but there are times when you can see a genuine attempt at understanding and discussion from both parties. Over 7 years on Reddit (2016-2023), I can count how many times that happened on one hand, while on Lemmy, it's infrequent but it happens a lot more than that.
That's why I came to lemmy, too
Reddit sucks, so does X and Elon Musk.
Pressured? Steve probably gleefully offered to suck his dick in exchange for Musk acknowledging his existence.
LOL
So that's why I'm banned.
Yes it’s against Reddit ToS to confront MAGA with logic, or criticize the great works of Emperor Monsk
One of us! One of us!
Glad i am no longer on reddit anymore
Me neither but almost worth going back just to get banned for posting truths about Elon and Spez and getting banned for it.
I got warned and banned on Reddit for mentioning elols name, fuck Reddit it has become shit.
Reddit has kissed the ring.
I got two warnings, one in regards to up voting things that MAGAts wouldn't like (I forget the specifics), and one for saying that if Republicans didn't like getting their toes stepped on by the judiciary, maybe we needed to step on more of their toes, or their whole foot, or maybe even push them over while doing it. And they said I was advocating for violence lmao.
Edit: added a word
When asked about Musk and Huffman’s correspondence, Reddit spokesperson Gina Antonini sent the following statement: “We take any report of Reddit policy violations seriously, whether on Reddit directly or through other public or private means. We will evaluate content reported to us and take action if violating.”
There was a famous reddit user called Unidan who I think was a scientist that studied animals. His account was eventually banned for Terms of Service violations due to his having an account that posted comments, and several other accounts that were just used for voting. He used the other accounts to give his comments an initial voting boost, which was a policy violation, and was therefore permanently banned.
Anyways, I occasionally noticed a strange voting pattern on Reddit. I'd have one comment that had not gotten any votes or replies for hours after I wrote it, and then all of a sudden, somebody would reply to argue, and their reply would more-or-less instantly have several upvotes, and simultaneously, my comment would have a similar number of downvotes.
This person was obviously using multiple accounts, violating the Terms of Service just like Unidan, so I went to report them, only to find out that there was literally no way for me to report them. The report button didn't have any fitting option, nor was it guaranteed to go to a reddit admin who could actually look at who voted for what. Mods can't see comment votes. There was a separate webpage you could go to to contact the admins, but again, there was no category for it, and no way to make a report that didn't fit those categories.
From that experience, it didn't feel like they would "take any report of Reddit policy violations seriously." How could they take the report seriously when they wouldn't even take the report in the first place? Now I see I was supposed to directly contact Reddit CEO Steve Huffman through private messaging.
Oh shit, it's corvids all the way down.
Biiirdmaaan
What an absolute cuck
Deleted my reddit account. Go Lemmy go!
Musk wants the content he personally finds objectionable to be moderated. Racist Nazi shit and hateful GQP posts are perfectly fine, just like on X Twitter.
But... Freedom of speech Elon... Isn't that you cause?? I think I'll go back to reddit jut to call you a nazi-bitch your fucking loser.
It's about freedom for elon to manipulate the masses not freedom of speech
Talk about a punchable face.
Wow, this guy is so deeeeeeep
