Time to finally dig out my old GameStop gift card that I've saved for like five years for this day. During the early pandemic I traded in my Xbox One and Xbox One X for double credit after the Series X was released, and I just hoped GameStop wouldn't implode before then.
So yes, GameStop, I will finally take my free launch Switch 2, thank you.
Usually gift cards have an expiration date. So, check it out just in case.
Yep, I checked that when I got the gift card. There's apparently no expiration for GameStop gift cards, and no expiration printed on the card. I was told as long as you have the code, you're good.
I also have a friend who did something similar at the same time and has periodically used his since then without a problem. We'll see.
Nice, playing the long game!
So I have to say this was very underwhelming for me. Console launches are all about Games, Games, Games. And this announcement just didn't have them. The console is cool and has a lot of useful features, but at this point it's an approximate $450-500 (not sure exactly because they didn't actually announce the price) surcharge to play...Mario Kart World, Kirby Riders, Donkey Kong Bananza, and a new From Soft game.
Two kart racers, DK, and BloodSouls is not motivating me to buy at launch.

Missed Launch Opportunities:
At this point, I'm guessing they have a launch lineup, and then possibly a separate holiday lineup. Launch is for the Nintendo diehards, and Holiday is for the families and kids. Hopefully more announcements come soon. For me it's a wait and see for more exclusives, which is the only reason I buy Nintendo consoles anymore.
Edit: Just checked and the From Soft exclusive is 2026. So not even a launch window title.
FromSoft game seems to be a 8-player PvP game, so I'm not sure what to expect honestly
The console is cool and has a lot of useful features
Does it? It seems like it's purely hardware upgrades from all the articles I've seen
I mean it's subjective. But I get your point.
I'm so pissed.
$450 for the base console
This is $700-$800 just to play a couple of games.
Every other game showed basically was not exclusive. But they didn't even show me a reason to get the hardware in all that. No updated eShop or drawing and productivity apps like the DS. No browser or Bluetooth confirmed. In fact they confirmed that the voice chat only works with the console mic.
Give me back a Nintendo that gives a crap and doesn't just want money trying to make kinect 2.
This looks like any Nintendo launch lineup I can remember: one "big" game they think will draw people in just for that (in this case Mario Kart) and not much aside from that. The fact we're even getting more than one additional first party title is comparatively impressive, but overall Nintendo launch lineups are pretty much always sparse. I think you're right and we'll see the "real" launch window lineup around the holidays.
Should I buy one ASAP in the hope that it will be hacked soon so I'll be sure to have the version most likely compatible with the hacking method, that is the question 🤔
I'll save you all the trouble.
Sameish shape Almost PS4 graphics. Better battery $500 (lol. I was over by $50) No plan to stop scalpers Old games work with it. New games work on old switch (let's be real.. only for a little while) Switch pro 2 controller No eShop improvements
At $500, the system would cost as much as a PlayStation 5 or XBox Series X and Nintendo would not be able to sell it as a low cost alternative. It would also be a 60% price increase over the previous generation. I would expect $400 and hope for $350.
I am ready for the battery life to keep getting worse, especially at the lower end of the range (so from 2.5-6.5 down to 2-6).
No graphics or performance improvement for old games running on the Switch 2 unless the publisher puts out a Switch 2 specific patch. Nintendo would rather have ugly games that work as expected rather than pretty games that introduce new bugs.
Why all the negativity ?
It's not? It's just my prediction
I was confused at first too, then realized these were just predictions and not an actual summary of the final product. I imagine the down votes are because people feel misled by someone's opinions presented as fact.
I'm crossing my fingers that it'll actually be $450. But I disagree on Switch 2 games being playable on Switch 1. I could see switch 1 games getting an upgrade in terms of performance/graphics, but no way Mario Kart 9 is playable on Switch 1.
I think it definitely will. The only reason they do this is for money. How will they make money off a game where it's only sold to the limited amount of people who get a switch. By allowing a low end version to be sold to switch they now have the potential to sell to 100 million people instead of the possible 2 million it sells in it's first few months.
And they are also right that it will phase out over time as the switch 2 starts to take market share but that will be years. I'm pretty sure the ps4 still has games coming out. My guess is just like the ps4/ps5 versions there will be 2 available on the cart or whenever you download from the store.
Launch date?
Remored that preorders open tomorrow (April 2nd) or the 9th. But I guess it will be part of the announcement tomorrow
Hmmm..... Q3 this year some time. Then they get two massive spike sales. So maybe September release
Thanks for the TL;DR damn that price hike
Oh it's $450 for the base console and $500 for the bundle so they weren't far off and then everything is proprietary from storage to their new controllers and webcam for some reason.
It's a guess/prediction. Not a tldr
