What is the 八一 (81?) on the star there for?
Eight One, the First of August.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PLA_Day
It's the founding of the People's Liberation Army, anniversary of the Communists' first armed conflict against Nationalist forces in 1927
I don't know what it means but it's on the emblem of the PLA
Wikipedia says this:
The PLA's insignia consists of a roundel with a red star bearing the two Chinese characters "八一"(literally "eight-one"), referring to the Nanchang uprising which began on 1 August 1927 (first day of the eighth month) and symbolic as the CCP's founding of the PLA. The inclusion of the two characters ("八一") is symbolic of the party's revolutionary history carrying strong emotional connotations of the political power which it shed blood to obtain. The flag of the Chinese People's Liberation Army is the war flag of the People's Liberation Army; the layout of the flag has a golden star at the top left corner and "八一" to the right of the star, placed on a red field. Each service branch also has its flags: The top 5⁄8 of the flags is the same as the PLA flag; the bottom 3⁄8 are occupied by the colors of the branches
Also from the remake
so unbelievably based, why couldn't i live in this reality
Is the DPRK the bad guys in the remake?
Yep, the DPRK and an ultranationalist russia make a military alliance and korea decides to invade the USA after a big cyber attack and during an economic crisis with russian help
a fun fact is that there was a game that came out a year before the movie about also a DPRK invasion of the USA, also because they wanted to use china originally but didnt want to get banned in china
I believe the game is Homefront, and I remember some friends being very into it and the Red Dawn remake...
I forgot they remade Red Dawn
God, I hope they never get around to remaking The Warriors
Red Dawn, but it's just some communists at a local community center discussing whether to devote a portion of their local park space to slighly more trash collection or an outdoors gym. It is over by morning tea.
Last year, Lin Manuel Miranda (Hamilton creator) released a musical adaptation of The Warriors where all of the characters are gender swapped.
Josh Peck’s acting in that remake was so abysmal I can still remember it clearly from 13 years ago
