Trump’s ‘dictator’ remark jolts the 2024 campaign — and tests his GOP rivals on debate day
The former president’s remarks came on the eve of what may be the final GOP primary debate of the 2024 campaign.
Sean Hannity was trying to throw Donald Trump a life vest, and Trump was waving it off.
At a town hall in Davenport, Iowa, on the eve of what may be the final Republican primary debate of the campaign, the Fox News host asked the likely GOP nominee whether he had “any plans whatsoever, if reelected president, to abuse power? To break the law? To use the government to go after people?”
Trump parried. Hannity probed. He again asked Trump whether he was indeed “promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?”
“Except for Day One,” Trump said.
Were Trump’s initial remarks a Trumpian jest? A threat? A promise?
Back in Davenport, as Hannity wrapped the town hall, the crowd’s reaction left no confusion over how Trump’s town hall and his remarks landed.
They gave him a standing ovation.

Trump isn't hiding what he plans to do. He has been open and honest that he will be a dictator and tyrant.
That's what "they" want. This isn't going to be a negative to hardcore trump loyalists.

No it doesn't. He's going full steam ahead, and a lot of the country supports him. I can feel the background noise of insanity permeate my city.
His supporters aren't the point. They are unreachable. We know that. It's the very few remaining swing voters who might be pushed over to Biden by this. If I were a swing voter --and granted I'm not-- it would definitely get my attention.
