Illinois may lift ban on building new nuclear power plants

While legislation awaiting Gov. J.B. Pritzker's signature would lift moratorium, it likely won't lead to automatic atomic energy boom.

What's JB waiting for? We've burned fossil fuels for 40 years since this moratorium was put in place and look where it got us.

Good. The entire country needs to get past the dumb belief that nuclear power is dangerous. We could solve a lot of energy issues with nuclear power but for some "reason" it gets a lot of resistance. Why? Are the windmill and solar companies scared that nuclear is way better than what they have to offer? Are politicians and others that stand to heavily profit from the usual green initiatives worried that they won’t be lining their pockets enough?
- the generation that got scared by 3 mile island and "china syndrome" are the ones in power in the government. it's also in their interest (bribes) to ban nuclear power.
About time! Now the rest of the states that don't have major seismic/weather activity please follow.
It's a hurdle out of the way, and I've got some tempered enthusiasm as long as ComEd doesn't touch it.

Unfortunately any construction is going to have a long enough tail the opportunity to grift off this one will outlive JB. Maybe we defy gravity for once in Illinois.

  Of course there is. As the planet becomes more inhospitable to human life, demand will go down, eventually reaching zero.
  
  Nope, there isn’t. Despite what the green gang thinks. Not a chance. Hence, nuclear is the logical choice.
