Yeah, nobody voting for Trump cares. They're brown people. They might PRETEND to care, but I promise you they don't. This isn't one of those things that isn't going to pull toward Biden OR Trump either way.
I think we're just more lucid and aware of what our government has been doing since the ink on the Declaration of Independence was signed.
People don't say this often, but the quality of the coverage of this horrifying ordeal is the best I've ever really seen. There's plenty of shortcomings, but the wars in Vietnam and Iraq and even against Isis weren't covered this closely or clearly.
I think Biden et al are operating as they always have, it's just the level of public awareness of it all that makes this so shocking.
They could at the very least just abstain. Vetoing is so fucking absurd, we won't even allow OTHER COUNTRIES to put pressure on them for obviously-acceptable behavior
Like why are the US doing nothing/ burry their head in the sand?
Now please don't bite my head off because I think at this point it's actually a fair question. Are there a lot of people in the upper levels of government with connections to Israel or is there more to it?
It’s that, but also, look up AIPAC. Lobbying is a huge problem in the US, and it was made way worse a couple decades ago by the SC’s decision in the Citizens United case.
There’s still more to it than that, but politically speaking, that’s a big part of the dynamic in modern times.
The veto is why the Security Council, and the UN in general, works. Its ultimate goal is to stop global war. And by "global war" it means wars that pulls in all the superpowers at once against each other, not all war on the globe.
The veto has made it successful because it prevents the UN from acting against the interests of any of the superpowers that can sustain a war against the rest of the UN. And because of that, the superpowers keep diplomatic channels through the UN open at all times because none of them will ever be at war with the UN itself.
Biden just writing trump the check. Not that he will be any better. In fact, he’ll be much, much worse. But when you have the power right now, and everyone is looking, you’re only shooting yourself in the foot when you’re turning around saying people should vote for you because he other guy is so awful. You’re…supporting genocide. It’s hard to get much worse than that.
What’s happening to the Palestinian people is the true atrocity. That part obviously be ignored. It’s absolutely the most pressing issue. But in the context of US politics, this kind of shit could very well spell the end of democracy. It dies supporting genocide. And it’ll maybe even bring genocide home. hooray.
President Donald Trump shattered decades of unwavering U.S. neutrality on Jerusalem on December 6th 2017, declaring the sorely divided holy city as Israel’s capital and sparking frustrated Palestinians to cry out that he had destroyed already-fragile Mideast hopes for peace.
Defying dire, worldwide warnings, Trump insisted that after repeated peace failures it was past time for a new approach, starting with what he said was his decision merely based on reality to recognize Jerusalem as the seat of Israel’s government. He also said the United States would move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, though he set no timetable.
“We cannot solve our problems by making the same failed assumptions and repeating the same failed strategies of the past,” Trump said, brushing aside the appeals for caution from around the world.
When Trump comes back to power he will definitely recognize Gaza as Israel territory and also remove Biden's sanctions on West Bank's Jewish settlers.
