YSK that if you live alone and have a pet, you should carry a card in your wallet to notify the appropriate people of your pet's existence.
Why YSK: There are a lot of people these days living alone with pets and if anything happened to the owner, others may not know to attend to the pet. If something happened to you, a coma, an accident, death, etc, your wallet would be the first place anyone would look for info about you and it would probably be the fastest way to bring attention to your small loved ones.
Oh wow. I can't imagine living so far from family. 30 mins was my maximum amount of drive time away from my family. I ended up getting a house that's 20 mins away.
I would say my first reaction to hearing my parent is dead/severely wounded would not be to look at home how the dog is doing but how my parent is doing or grieve.
After maybe 2 or 3 days I would maybe have a clear enough mind to think about a pet, that's not even mine.
I show my coworkers new pet pics almost daily because they seem to be genuinely interested in my menagerie. Especially the ducks lol. They're from urban and suburban areas, so they've never really known someone who likes farming before.
This seems like a good idea for all pet owners. My family and friends would think of my pets eventually, but it might not be the first thing on their minds.
I have a beagle, so I'd have the cops show up if he started baying for extended amounts of time. I'm surprised I haven't had noise complaints already. Lil dude struggles with anxiety and will occasionally scream until I give him trazadone. When he was smaller and too young for meds, he would scream for hours. Nothing could comfort him. Poor boi had a rough start to life.
I have so many critters and I tell people about them constantly. Still gonna make a card. Well, prolly more than one. I don't think all my animals could fit on one. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 12 ducks. They are all my children and I love them more than myself.
