Dual-Boot causing slow boot, solutions?

Quick and dirty is this:

Running a new dual boot system. Windows boots fine and fast. Grub bootloader grinds and grunts to startup. Systemd checks point to Fedora waiting on the Win10 disk to boot (+45s!!!). Obviously, I don't need that drive to run, but Fedora/Bootloader thinks it should.

Disconnected the Win10 drive, Fedora booted in 3.6s.

So... Windows bootloader knows to ignore the Fedora OS drive and launches fine. Fedora Bootloader insists it try everything to get that Win10 drive running to my own detriment.

Is there a way to just ignore the Win10 drive the way Win10 ignores Fedora?

Been scratching my head on this one for a bit to be honest.

EDIT: Seems the issue was caused by RAID incompatibility from my internal backups for Win10. The RAID drives wrongly pointed the finger at the boot disk because the only thing I could really make sense of in diagnostics was the Win10 boot stalling for 45+ seconds. Once I disconnected all the drives and incrementally reconnected them

The lemmy.ml pictrs server is resizing all images to thumbnail size

Edit: this appears to be fixed now: https://lemmy.ml/post/22203615/14801411

All images in posts on lemmyml are currently being resized to 256px on the longest dimension (width/height), even if they are image posts, not intended to be just article thumbnails.

Is this an intentional change? It makes text in images illegible and means that I have to view the original post to see the original image on every image post.

If this is a deliberate space-saving measure, could it be tuned for a little better usability? For example, increasing the maximum size of image when the post is an image post (as opposed to a web link that generates a thumbnail) and setting a size threshold to trigger resize (ie. most small images could be left alone).

Some examples from my feed:

Jerboa @lemmy.ml

Jerboa can't go back after clicking a broken link.

As the title says, if I click on a link to a Lemmy post that was deleted, or can't be found for whatever reason, Jerboa goes back to the start of the feed instead of going back to where I was.

Especially annoying when I've been scrolling for a while. Sorry if it is a known bug, I haven't seen any post about it.

Edit: trying to reproduce it, test

Edit2: this !madeupcommunity@sopuli.xyz lets me go back normally, so I think it's a weird interaction when opening urls in jerboa through URLCheck that makes another instance of it, restarting it. If I find any links that actually break it without this interaction I'll update the post, but until then, consider it a false alarm/special case ;)

Brave Browser @lemmy.ml

Why doesn't brave patch out google's hidden spyware extension?

Update

Apparently this is patched out by Brave, but it is enabled by default. See u/Engywuck@lemm.ee 's comment below!

Vanilla chromium gives google's websites special treatment by offering detailed CPU info, among other things. This is implemented through a hidden browser extension. You can prove this by yourself by running chrome.runtime.sendMessage("nkeimhogjdpnpccoofpliimaahmaaome", {method: "cpu.getInfo"}, (response) => {console.log(JSON.stringify(response, null, 2)); }, ); on google.com through the browser console. For me, it gives the following info:

Is it possible to tell Jellyfin to search also the original title?

Hello! I have a problem: sometimes I instinctively refer to a movie by the English name (for example, Star Wars), but if I search for it in jellyfin it is not found, as the italian translated name is "Guerre Stellari". I'd like to be able to search for it with both the original name and the translated name. The original name is present in the metadata, it just isn't used as a search parameter. Is there a way?

EDIT: I understood the problem: i'm stupid

Star wars episode IV had both the translated and the original title, and was correctly find when searching "star wars", but episode V and VI didn't have the string "star wars" in the original title! and this is why jellyfin didn't find them. I edited the metadata and added it, now it works perfectly. Thanks to everyone!

App crashing

I've noticed with the last 2-3 versions of the app (currently 0.0.69, nice); the app crashes 2/3rds of the time when returning to it from being in the background.

Open the app, switch to another app, switch back a couple min later and it closes then reopens as if you'd just started it for the first time today (losing whatever post you had open).

Curious if others are experiencing this?

Are gifs broken?

Since the last release, I find that gifs won't play in Jerboa anymore. For example, this comment just appears as a static image for me, even when I click on it. Do you see the same behavior?

Edit: solved by user merde alors:

did you enable "auto play GIFs" in settings>look&feel ?

Then close and reopen the app and that should fix it.

Mouse Cursor jumps around

Hello everyone, I have a weird problem with my mouse: when I switch the window focus, e.g. by alt tabbing to another window, or by closing a window, and the newly focused window is on my other monitor my mouse will jump to that monitor without me doing anything. It is not a deal breaker or something, but it is very annoying...

I am using Fedora 39 with Gnome 45 with xorg, nvidia 2070 super, running the nvidia drivers and a Ryzen 3600.

I looked in my control center for mouse options, but they are very much limited

Instability of site

Hello

I have noticed that the server have been going down a lot for 10 - 20 mins.

Unfortunately, I'm currently on vacation, so I don't think I will have the time to fix it.

I will be back tomorrow evening and will look into it and hopefully fix it then.

EDIT: There was a misconfiguration of the auto scaling setup. This scaled the system up and used all of its CPU, which caused the site to be unresponsive.

This should be fixed now, but I will keep monitoring it.

An error occurs when trying to add a photo to a post

I wanted to post screenshots of my riced KDE setup on Unixporn so I copied them to my phone using a USB cable. And now when I'm trying to add them to a post, it seems to always show the same error (Client request(POST https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image) invalid: 403 . Text "<..."). The app has all the required permissions granted and I'm not banned from the community. What can it be then?

iPhone @lemmy.ml

iPhone 14 Pro randomly locking while using

The past few days while using my iPhone 14 Pro the Lock Screen has been sliding down on its own. I am able to swipe I up and continue what I am doing. The time between instances of it happening appears random. I have tried cleaning the screen, I do have a tempered glass screen protector that has been on it since mid December. There is no damage on the screen itself or the protector.

This is my first iPhone since the 3. I got this one new this month last year.

Has anyone here had this happen and found a fix?

Update: after updating it appears to have stopped happening... So far.
