"...to learn how to love, and forget how to hate"
  • Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky". Those crispy awesome guitar riffs, and then you start singing some trite crap about Jeebus? It's maddening!

  • Bill Withers' song "Ain't No Sunshine" could be interpreted as Hades and/or Demeter singing about Persephone.

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone

It's not warm when she's away

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone

And she's always gone too long

    Anytime she goes away

  • Gathering materials does suck, yeah. Rarely an activity I enjoy in any game.

I can respect the opinion of wanting to skip the social parts, that's definitely not for everyone.

Some of them I really like though, like Nico's always doing these side-eyed references to movies without actually naming them (Pulp Fiction, The Room, etc.)

  • I'm hooked on Marvel's Midnight Suns right now. It's a little bit XCOM, a little bit Persona, and some deckbuilding on top. Some exploration and light puzzles in the hub area between missions if you like, mostly for the friendship/lore/cosmetic stuff. Got it free from Epic last month, but I'd say it's at least worth $25 or so if you find a sale.

Edit: Also Nico Minoru is a possible party member, and I fucking love Runaways.

  • What are some good sketch comedy shows?
  • Also fantastic, can't believe I forgot to include this one. Not only are they hilarious, but it's fun to rewatch them knowing Jordan Peele would go on to start making a name in horror. You can see the roots of that in a lot of their sketches.

  • What are some good sketch comedy shows?
  • I need to give this one another look. I watched a few episodes a while back, and it wasn't bad, but it was weird. It felt kind of like watching interdimensional cable from Rick & Morty.

  • I forgot about Mr Show.

They also did a brief revival on Netflix a few years ago, "w/Bob & David". I think it kept the spirit pretty well.

  • What are some good sketch comedy shows?

One of my favorite genres, always looking for more. Bonus points if it's currently on streaming.

I've watched the absolute hell out of That Mitchell and Webb Look, Kids in the Hall, Whitest Kids U Know, and obviously SNL and MadTV but both of those had a lot of ups and downs.

I saw the one season each that Astronomy Club and The Moth Effect had and they were both pretty good. I've seen some A Bit of Fry and Laurie, but can't find a good place to stream it. TripTank was basically a sketch show with cartoons, and I liked that a lot too.

Disgaea fans: How does 4 compare to 1 and 2, doods?

I used to play the hell out of 1 and 2 back in the PS2 days, but I haven't touched the series beyond that, and haven't even played 1/2 much in the last 10 years.

How would you rate 4 in comparison? I noticed it was on sale in the Switch eShop, and I'd love to have one of the series to play on the go.

What I loved about the ones I played:

    • Story had a good balance of comedy and heart
    • Flexible and fun character building, with decent enough defined classes to get you started
    • Tons of post-game/side content (I didn't like every piece of it, but I liked how much there was to try.)
    • CAPTAIN GORDON, DEFENDER OF EARTH
    • Perfect geochains, though I was usually too smoothbrain for it.

    What I didn't like:

    • Item world, IIRC worse in 1 than 2?
    • Adell's siblings
    • Demon court thing?

    Are there any "diegetic musicals"?

For those unfamiliar with the term "diegetic music", it refers to music that's actually played in the story rather than just for the benefit of the audience. The characters can hear it too.

With that in mind, are there any musicals where the characters acknowledge that they're constantly breaking into song? Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "Once More with Feeling" is the best example I can think of for this.

The opposite of "Ladies and Gentlemen" would be "Whores and Scoundrels".

Which sounds rad as fuck. Like how you'd open a speech for the Guild of Calamitous Intent.
