I really like this song!
  • Literally, most people with Goyte; his music outside his one hit wonder is so fucking good. I highly recommend listening to more of his work if you haven't.

  • Which song is forever linked to a movie for you now?
  • No worries, it's a common misconception. It doesn't help that Nickelback was founded in 1995 and the song came out in 2002 iirc.

  • Which song is forever linked to a movie for you now?
  • Hero wasn't by them, it was only by Chad.

  • What's The Best Adblocker For Android Phones?
  • AdGuard. You can get a lifetime license through stack social for anywhere between $16-$30. It also does HTTPS filtering.

  • Android 15 will run Bluetooth with your phone still turned off.
  • OP blocked for clickbait.

  • Have you replaced any British words with their American versions?
  • I’ve always spelt it with two Ls and just found after your comment that American English doesn’t 🤢

  • Amazon storing classified US government documents improperly
  • I added more JPEG for OP:

  • Have you replaced any British words with their American versions?
  • American here, I tend to spell words the British way because they make more sense, and I've done it since I was a teenager, for some reason it pisses off my older brother lol.

    Examples:

    1. Grey
    2. Defence
    3. Offence
    4. Theatre
    5. Customisation
    6. Analyse
    7. Flavour

    best device for avoiding transcoding?
  • He's referring to how you need an iPhone or iPad to set up the Apple TV; you can't sign in to it without one. It's an odd 'overlook' from Apple.

  • Smart devices are turning out to be a poor investment
  • From a media perspective, I am inclined to agree; however, like the article said, the experiences of these devices are getting worse for seemingly no reason. Personally, I'm inclined to believe NVIDIA may not make another device like the shield because of the focus on AI and chips. I'd imagine these devices make little profit compared to all the money being made with the current focus on AI.

I don't really like the lock downed experience of Apple's ecosystem, but the software updates make these devices, particular the Apple TV, better every year.

  • What privacy friendly app/service/stuff makes your life simpler?
  • Niether are open source, but the full versions of AdGuard for each platform, Adguard Public DNS and DuckDuckGo.

  • Smart devices are turning out to be a poor investment
  • When it comes to streaming devices, nothing beats Apple TV in my opinion.

Outside the Apple TV app itself, the OS has very little ads. The only thing I dislike about it is the lack of Kodi + Google Drive plug in, but Infuse Pro works.

YSK about SiftRSS, an RSS Feed Filter that allows you to include, exclude and even use regex to control your RSS feeds. It even works for podcasts!

    https://siftrss.com

If your RSS feeder doesn't allow you to filter out keywords (looking at Reeder on  Devices), this service allows you to exclude content.

I personally use it to remove ads, sponsored articles and articles about Trump/Elon. For podcasts, I used to remove both sponsored podcasts and episodes featuring the word trump or Elon.

If you find the service useful, the creator has a BuyMeACoffee Page here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siftrss

Vivaldi improves Mail Search, Translate, extends Web Panels with extension support

Web Panels gains page navigation and extension support

Vivaldi’s many built-in features are available in the Panels bar. You have always been able to extend Vivaldi by adding any webpage as a Web Panel. You can now also extend the functionality of your Web Panels using full support for Chrome extensions.

By popular demand, your favorite extensions now work inside Web Panels. You can add popular websites like Spotify and WhatsApp as Web Panels, and extend their functionality using extensions available from the Chrome Web Store. Vivaldi is compatible with most Chrome extensions.

Use your favorite extensions inside the Vivaldi Web Panels Extension developers can now also extend the functionality of Vivaldi by adding entire new panels using the Side Panel extension API.

    Page navigation within Web Panels

Web Panels are used for more things than we had ever imagined! To accommodate more use cases, we have added page navigation buttons to the Web Panel toolbar. You can now easily navigate Back and Forward, as well as back to the Panel’s start page.

Get an instant overview of website permissions and privacy

Websites constantly prompt you for your permission to do ever more things: get your location, access your camera, send you notifications, and the list goes on. It can be overwhelming as you are just trying to find the information that you are looking for.

Vivaldi now gives you better control over which permissions websites can request. Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Website Permissions > Global Permission to, e.g., stop websites from pestering you with Notification permission requests.

Get granular control in managing website permissions You can conveniently review your privacy settings as granted permissions are highlighted per website.

Set your preferred webpage color theme

Default to the dark side of the web! Vivaldi now lets you choose your preferred webpage color scheme — dark or light — independent of the Vivaldi Theme or the operating system theme (Dark Mode).

Some websites still do not support Dark Mode. Vivaldi can now automatically generate a dark color theme by adapting the color scheme of any website. You can enable Dark Mode from Settings > Website Appearance.

    Faster translations with Vivaldi Translate

Together with our translation service partner, Lingvanex, we have greatly improved the performance of Vivaldi Translate, our top-notch translation service with support for 108 languages. We have also significantly improved the translation quality for some key languages.

Vivaldi Translate does not harvest any information about you or the pages you translate. Vivaldi operates the service from our Icelandic data center, with your privacy as the top priority.

We will continue to prioritize the translation quality and strive to make it better.

Find your messages in Vivaldi Mail

Vivaldi Mail is built around its comprehensive search index; getting the search right has always been the priority! However, people’s mailboxes have grown exponentially over the years. A single online purchase can generate dozens of updates and delivery status messages.

Explore new tools to the Mail Search to find your important emails You may get overwhelmed by too many search results when looking for a particular message. We have addressed this issue by expanding the tools Vivaldi Mail Search shows you to help you find the right message.

To use the new Advanced Search, start typing into the search field as you are used to. Vivaldi Mail will show you every relevant email message. When you get too many results, you can use the new filters that appear right below the search field. You can search within the whole message or just the body or header.

You can pick which folder or mail account to search in and filter searches by Date range, From, To, CC, Subject, the message content, aka Body, or whether they have attachments. You can also filter inverse to only find messages that do not match.

Searches are stored in your browsing history, so you can quickly navigate to an earlier search. You can also save searches as a Filter, for frequently performed searches.

You can find your saved filters in Settings > Mail > Mail Filters and Actions, you can add actions, such as adding a label or marking the message as read, to the messages filtered out in your search.

Data portability for Reading List and Notes (Import/Export)

Your data is your data. You should be able to freely move between apps and services as you wish. Vivaldi believes this should be the norm across apps and platforms.

Vivaldi already supports exporting bookmarks, Speed Dials, logins, among other types of data. We have had some omissions and are working to ensure our users have full data portability.

You can now migrate your data into and out from Vivaldi Notes and Reading List. Notes supports Markdown files (compatible with Joplin and other note apps), and Reading List supports Instapaper CSV format (compatible with Instapaper and other read-later apps).

You can export all your notes and note folders from the File > Export > Notes menu, and for Reading List, export from the File > Export > Reading List menu.

You can import your Notes and Reading List from the File > Import From Application's or Files menu. Choose the new Notes Folder or Reading List options from the dropdown menu.

Export and Import Notes and Reading Lists in Vivaldi easily. Vivaldi believes our products are great for you to use. We do not want to hold you or your data hostage.

How do I fix/repair a broken joint on a figure?

My brother got me a Ted figure knowing I love the movie(s) and the new TV show, he had it sent to my home and it seems during transit that the head/neck joint piece broke in two.

Is there anything I can do, or alternatives to these? Thank you!

Edit: thank you all for the advice!

LPT: Using Read It Later apps? Save a webpage to archive.org, and then save it to your RIL app to avoid link rot in the future.

Some apps will save the text of the webpage in your account, while others just strip everything but the text on the webpage.

If you want to ensure the article you are reading doesn't succumb to link rot, using this method ensures you'll still have the article.

Alternatively, using Firefox Reader Mode, Vivaldi Reader Mode or Safari's Reader Mode, you can email yourself the text of the article and access it anytime through your email. You can create a folder or label to organize them!

In what ways has your use of technology/internet changed in 2023?

I figured this may lead to an interesting discussion in the comments.

How has your use of Technology changed in the past year? I'll start.

    ---

    • Due to the rise of streaming services and Sony/discovery removing content from libraries, I downloaded all my iTunes purchases onto a 2TB SSD (which I'll soon need to get another).

    • Like many, I've stopped using Reddit outside of Google search.

    • I've reduced my subscriptions to just two. (Apple One and Google One)

    • I've purchased DVDs/Blu rays of my favorite uncensored shows (Family Guy and American Dad) and ripped them and watch them through Cloud storage (Google Drive via Infuse for Apple platforms, and Kodi for Windows)(I've also purchased MakeMKV just because it is so damn useful)

    • I've used Google App Scripts to bypass some Gmail limitations to make filters that I otherwise couldn't. For instance, in Outlook.com, you can block email addresses and domains before you have ever gotten an email from them. In Gmail, you can't. The best you can do is create a filter that deletes them. In my case, I've created a Google App Script that runs every hour and looks for (@.mil) domain emails and marks them as spam. (I am in college, and I fucking hate that they give my email to recruiters.)
