[WP] God stars in an episode of Undercover Boss but can't stop blowing his cover

I originally posted this to !shitty_million_dollar_ideas@lemmy.dbzer0.com but I feel like it would be a better fit for a writing prompt. I feel like there's plenty of chances for humorous situations like Jesus wearing a noticeably fake beard and production staff getting people to sign NDAs.

Looking for an emulator (old nintendo)
  • You can check the emulation wiki and see which ones they recommend. I'm not sure which are available on F-Droid but most of them are available through a GitHub page

  • [Weekly thread] What have you been watching this week? 7th of April
  • I watched the 2007 version of Funny Games and Alien Nation.

I didn't think either was that great. I'm wondering if 70s movie called Funny Games is better.

Alien Nation was a somewhat generic buddy cop film with an alien being one of the cops and the other being a bigot. The whole movie feels like a not so subtle metaphor and the actual aliens don't really have a unique role or identity.

  • Programmers got PSP games running on the PlayStation Portal, then “responsibly reported” the exploit so it could be patched
  • I'm not surprised. TheFloW has done this before with PS4/5 exploits . A lot of players don't update their firmware in the hopes they'll be able to run something like HEN.

  • Putting the roleplay back in the RPG was a huge reason for Cyberpunk 2077's recent metro and romance updates, says associate game director: 'It's easy to overlook'
  • Grand Theft Auto IV gave players choice with actions instead of dialogue but I feel like the end result was similar to Cyberpunk.

Characters you decide not to kill will often help you for a bit but it doesn't drastically effect the story. You still hit a notable point of no return that only really comes into play at the very end.

Personally that feels more like an adventure game. I don't think Cyberpunk is very unique in what it did.

  • Putting the roleplay back in the RPG was a huge reason for Cyberpunk 2077's recent metro and romance updates, says associate game director: 'It's easy to overlook'
  • I feel like you could say that about most games though. I wouldn't say Cities Skylines is an RPG but you are fulfilling the role of a mayor. Chirper adds to the immersion aspect but I don't think that's enough to shift the genre.

Maybe it's a hot take though. Kind of similarly I wouldn't call F.E.A.R. a horror game. I'd say it's an FPS with horror elements.

  • Putting the roleplay back in the RPG was a huge reason for Cyberpunk 2077's recent metro and romance updates, says associate game director: 'It's easy to overlook'
  • How so? To mean it felt like Grand Theft Auto IV. You go around doing jobs for individuals and get thrown a handful of choices and possible romance options along the way but it still feels very linear.

  • Putting the roleplay back in the RPG was a huge reason for Cyberpunk 2077's recent metro and romance updates, says associate game director: 'It's easy to overlook'
  • Maybe it's because I associate roleplaying with the idea of player choice but I really don't think it added a ton to the RPG aspect. World depth? Sure but not by much.

  • Indeed...
  • You need to have sound on. She's getting cussed at for what she's doing

  • I finished Rullout : New Vegas
  • I think my next challenge run should be beating the PS3 without reloading. If the game crashes or I clip into a rock I need to start over.

  • Looking to rob an apartment building? Pull the fire alarm and see who didn't lock their door while leaving.
  • It would be more for big ticket small items. Laptops and what not. You'd go down as they trickle up.

  • Looking to rob an apartment building? Pull the fire alarm and see who didn't lock their door while leaving.
  • Yeah. Pull it and go to a different floor and look around. You aren't standing around waiting for them unless you have some weird 1930s pull station

  • Looking to rob an apartment building? Pull the fire alarm and see who didn't lock their door while leaving.
  • I mean assuming it takes them five minutes to respond and they're going to a different floor I'd say that's plenty of time

  • Looking to rob an apartment building? Pull the fire alarm and see who didn't lock their door while leaving.

Setting off a detector might give you a time bonus while they investigate.

I was watching the Simpsons episode where Homer is a firefighter and that gave me the idea.

Can someone tell me how to get the tool options window to stop floating in GIMP?
  • The man in the photo reminds me a bit of Brutal Moose.

Maybe it's just the facial hair. I feel like there's a video of him in a similar stance/outfit

  • Can someone tell me how to get the tool options window to stop floating in GIMP?

I know there's ways to reset the entire layout but I keep accidentally doing it. The attached images shows what I am talking about on the left.

How can I go about cracking the Android games that I own?

I own Stardew Valley but I am avoiding using the Google Play store when possible. While I could just sign into Aurora Store with my Google account I think I'd need to install Google Play Services so I am wondering if I could crack the game myself. I think in the past people used Lucky Patcher but I have tried it with other games that I own with no luck.

I've looked through the megathread and it seems like there are versions of Stardew Valley uploaded to Mobilism but a majority of them are modded for things like infinite stamina and money. The version without mods on Mobilism also appears to be re-uploaded from Apk Vision which isn't in the megathread.

If you could only play on one game console for the rest of your life which console would you choose?

Let's say the PC doesn't count and you aren't taking into account backwards compatibility, emulation, online play, homebrew games, and the cost/availability of games.

I feel like I'd want to choose the PS3. Like the Xbox 360 it had a decent lifespan and a lot of games were produced for it. A lot of which are already some of my favorites.

The only things that would make hesitant are I feel like a lot of modern games are larger and have open worlds which I feel like that could be nice in the long run and many of my favorite games for the PS3 have been re-released.

What's the best way to play the Java edition of Minecraft on Android in 2024?

I believe I was previously using PojavLauncher, it came bundled with my Retroid Pocket 3+, but I could have sworn it was wrapped up in some kind of controversy.

I could easily be blending together memories of PojavLauncher and PolyMC but I thought it had something to do with people using pirated versions of the game with PojavLauncher.

Either way, is PojavLauncher still the way to go? I'm not a fan of the micro transactions Bedrock edition offers.

It's that time of the year again

It cracked me up when they sent this to me.

I feel like I'm going to get Nintendo E-Shop giftcards based off of the amount of Switch games I've been playing despite now owning a Switch.

Shitty Million Dollar Ideas: A place to pitch your fever dream ideas for Shark Tank

The idea is to come up with goofy million dollar ideas that you thought of in the shower, while going to bed, or during a fever dream that would get you laughed off of Shark Tank.

Like white t-shirts tie dyed with red wine for suburban moms so they can get as day drunk as they want or a pitching machine that shoots safety razors blades for the little patches of grass that grow in sidewalk cracks.

What are some good videos about the Far Lands of Minecraft?

For those that haven't heard of the Far Lands they are explained on the Minecraft-Archive Wiki as

    > Prior to Minecraft Beta 1.8, the Far Lands was an area generated at the calculated end of Minecraft maps. The far lands appear at (x: ±12550821; z: ±12550821). This bug is generated from the breakage and mathematical limitation of Minecraft's noise and terrain generation, which starts to calculate impossible numbers, even exceeding negative integers and sometimes "infinite" number.

It's where a wide array of different bugs would occur depending on how far you progress. Different Youtubers have done videos walking to it occasionally raising money for charity.

    ---

I was wondering what some good videos you've seen explaining or exploring the area?

Have you ever tried an open source dating app?

I recall hearing about Alovoa a year ago and while it sounds nice with no ads or paid features, being open source, and private data being encrypted I have to imagine the userbase is incredibly small relative to other services. Google Play lists it at over a thousand downloads but it's also available through F-Droid so that may not mean much. I have to imagine the userbase is mostly men which might prevent some users from joining or sticking around.

    ---

Either way (TL:DR) I'd be curious to see what your experiences are with open source dating apps or even apps designed around making friends.

What games have you played with community run multiplayer mods?

For example Project Cartographer describes itself as the following

    > Project Cartographer is a modification for Halo 2 PC (Halo 2 for Windows Vista) that restores online play (Microsoft abandoned the LIVE servers) and adds additional features that are not present in the base game.

Before the release of Master Chief Collection it was my go-to for playing online.

Similarly H1-Mod exists for CoD: Modern Warfare Remastered.

I'd be interested to hear which ones you've tried and how active the community is. They don't need to be currently active or a replacement for a game's existing multiplayer services. It could be something like Zandronum which allows you to play the classic Doom or NVMP-X which allows you to play Fallout New Vegas with friends.

Most of these services don't contain DRM so you can use Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle, or any other version of the game and because they are community run you don't have to worry about servers going down as time goes on and can potentially host your own games.

    ---

I also like to make a special mention of X Link Kai which allows you to play system link games remotely. If you are curious I'd check out ConsoleMods.org for setup instructions and their website for a list of supported games.

There's plenty of other similar services out there depending on what console you are using such as Insignia for the original Xbox.

I'd love to see these communities grow.

I spent a few hours browsing it last week and some of the memes there made me chuckle.

What episode/trend of The Simpsons turned you off of the show?

For me it was Lisa Goes Gaga. It was focused entirely on Lady Gaga who played herself and was awkwardly inserted, I don't mind the occasional brief celebrity appearance or when they lend their voice to other characters (ex. Meryl Streep playing Jessica Lovejoy in Bart's Girlfriend) but they started to feel so forced. I tried watching the occasional episode afterwards but people like JJ Abrams would show up in Do PizzaBots Dream of Electric Guitars? and I'd lose interest.

I have started watching the show again but I am curious who else has lost interest due to an episode or trend especially those who have been watching the show since its beginning.

    How are Doom 3's DLCs?

I recently beat the base game and was wondering what the general consensus was on the DLCs.

If you like Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm you should check out The Life and Times of Tim

I was scrolling through animated shows on IMDb and decided to give it The Life and Times of Tim and a watch and really enjoyed it. It reminds me a lot of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm where the protagonist gets in an awkward or uncomfortable situation and proceeds to stumble and just dig themself deeper into the pit they've fallen into.

The humor is darker in tone kind of like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

You should be able to gauge whether or not you'll like the show based off of the first episode.

Does the DRM in PC games get updated along with the rest of the game?

I was thinking about if it made sense for games to keep their DRM if a cracked version has been released due to the issues DRM can occasionally cause for the consumer.

GOG installers are already DRM free but I feel like you don't see those shared online anymore than you do pirated games.

The only reason I could see keeping the DRM making sense is if the version of Denovo or other DRM was updated alongside the game. If it is how long do they typically receive updates for? I know some games like Doom Eternal had Denovo removed but I don't know if that's due to cracks existing or the time the game has been out.

    Edit:

I suppose account based DRM like Steam's might make sense so people aren't sharing one account. Even then you run the same risks as sharing any other account and in Steam's case you can still play offline.

How well does PSVR work on PC?

I've seen some videos and guides but a lot of them are dated back multiple years.

I'm primarily looking for something to use for watching 3D movies.
