GOG Summer Sale has arrived
  • Super useful thanks! I was actually looking at psychonauts 2. I use a Steam controller so that controller thing is getting me a bot worried. I'll do what you say and see how that goes. Cheers!

  • GOG Summer Sale has arrived
  • Thanks. I don't care about online feature so it doesn't seem too complicated. I will probably grab a game to try this out and a few more and everything works without problems.

  • Stonehenge sprayed with paint by environmental protesters
  • Rebecca Watson has an interesting video on this. The way things are going right now, people in 50 years will look back and say activists were the only people trying something, while most of us just waited for the shit to hit the fan.

  • What do you think of this prediction?
  • It's not because none of the current platform let you do it that it's a bad point. People have traded games for decades before digital platforms, it wouldn't even be innovation lol. You can suck on Steam all you want, it's just your usual capitalist business, they dont care about you and will fuck you up the very second they evaluate they can make more money by doing so. But in the current state of things, they basically make tons of money by doing almost nothing (providing server space, wow) and "gamers" will rip their shirts off at the slightest criticism of that company.

  • What do you think of this prediction?
  • I get that steam is a pretty nice platform to browse, and being a linux user, Proton is amazing. But steam is business, they build Proton to sell the steam deck, not for Linux users. And aren't they in trial right now for overcharging millions of dollars? We now have eveything in place to replace steam with a fair, user controlled alternative. I will gladly pay a 5% or 10% fee, on top of the game's price, to finance a user controlled infrastructure and dev team for projects such has proton.

  • What do you think of this prediction?
  • Unless you're a doctor, I think you shouldn't get into medical diagnostic. My grandpa smoked 2 packs a day and lived up to 95., my other grandpa was walking 10 km a day and never smoked, he died at 72.

  • What do you think of this prediction?
  • I mean, there is your regular serial killers, and then there's ___ Insert most dangerous killers here____ . Sure ultimately I've killed a few people, but it could be so much worse. See what I mean? Steam is an ok platform but in the end they only cares about profit. But since 90% of the gamers get wet when you mentioned the company name, there's no need for them to change anything right now. Why in the world is it considered normal that a business that basically only provide server space gets to take 30% of sale price, while the devs who spent thousand of hours on a project only get 70%. Maybe it made sens 15 years ago, but not in 2024.

  • What do you think of this prediction?
  • Steam is just another profit business. I don't get why people think they're about anything else. They take a huge part of the sells and don't even let you own the games. Owning means you can sell, give or do whatever you want with your games. Oh and "likely to die before 75", lol, says fucking who, the 4chan doctor?

  • YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
  • Ok got you. So you'd rather stare at a black screen for 30 seconds every 5 minutes than switch to an alternative where you can have exactly the same service, but without advertising and where control is based on the user rather than a multi-billion dollar corporation. So you want youtube and nothing else, but you refuse to support youtube. Basically, we're back at good old advertising, were people will pick up their phone during a break and wait for the program to resume. But you don't see things you didn't ask for! One last thing, did you know that "Vinegar is perhaps the best way to clean a toilet tank, as it’s naturally acidic. It removes lime and calcium deposits, and it’s a natural antibacterial. Pour two cups of vinegar into the tank, allow to sit for an hour, scrub, and flush to rinse." You're welcome!!

  • YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
  • Ok hear me out: an add-on that promotes "Watching less youtube!!!!". Isn't that genius? It could be 50/50. 15 seconds of blackscreen for people like you who enjoy starring at it, and 15 seconds of "less screen time" promotion. That way you are frequently reminded that you could do better things with your time. Example : "You have starred at a black screen for XX minutes today. Did you know that a basic ukulele cost around 30$ and you can learn playing by investing as low as 30 minutes per day?" On top of it, I will ad a functionality that let you customize the color of the blackscreen! What do you think, are we getting somewhere or what?

  • YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
  • What if I offer you an add-on that would promote healthy life-habits instead of black screen? Would you be interested in that? For example, it's important to squeeze the sponge after using it, this would be super useful to remind you about it!That's just an example, there are dozens of small tips like that requires a daily reminder.

  • YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
  • Not if it brings people to a user controlled FLOSS platform (Peertube for example ) and make them ditch Youtube. We need to move the viewers and content to FLOSS alternatives so anything that will bring new users is good. Youtube will be the biggest battle IMO. Plus it would be kind of fun to trash Youtube on their own platform. Let's settle for an optional functionality.

    Nextcloud appreciation post

After months of waiting, I finally got myself an instance with Libre Cloud. I was expecting basic file storage with a few goodies but boy, this is soooo much more. I am amaze by how complete this is!!! Apps let me configure my instance to fit everything I need, my workflow is now crazy fast and I can finally say goodbye to gdrive, gsuite, trello, calendar, etc. All of this, with 1tb while not giving any of ma data to some evil business for... 10$ cad a month!? Can't believe this is not what every organisation are using.

Working on metal music for a potential Doom/Hades type game (fast pacing) - I'd like some feedback.
    soundcloud.com Modular Metals

Sketch is a music & audio production studio based in Montreal .

    Modular Metals

I've previously composed for different project, video, play, etc. but never for a game. I got an opportunity and they asked me to send draft of metal tracks so I recorded a few things overs the past 2 weeks. I'm looking for any kind of feedback that could help me. In you opinion, are these too fast, slow, complicated, simple? What are you favorites? I'm more of a casual gamer... Please try to stay constructive with you comments, Reddit will take care of the bashing. Thanks!

Online Office suite, easy to set-up?

I've been using the Google Office suite for the past 10 years and been looking for an alternative for a while. Degoogling is a hard process. I mostly use the office suite and the files storage. I teach in college and Univ, so I need to be able to access my files and presentations from different computers. I curently have 200gb storage and would maybe need an extra 200.

I have been able to try Nextcloud with the office app and, appart from a few speed issues, it was working really well. But the free accounts I manage to get is limited to 2gb and their main services seems to be buisnesses focus, and not for single users like me. I'm looking for a cheap, easy to setup cloud solution, that would allow me to use the online office suite, read audio and video files that are stored on my cloud, and maybe do web hosting to transfer my site. Can someone point me to that kind of service? Thanks

Is there a 5 min tutorial for Github

So, I was trying to use the official "web app" for Lemmy, and, once again, it's just a link to Github. I'm no programmer and I just want to use the app, but have no clue what all those files are for. The tutorials on YouTube are like 1 hours long and are intended for programmers. It kind of happens more and more (links to github) and it gets me anxious every time. I am not a digital idiot at all, but this lacks information. Thanks!
