Woman who ate poisonous mushrooms said meal was "delicious" before dying, doctor testifies at triple murder trial

  • The admin team actively defederates other instances, removes federated communities, and bans federated users for behavior that does not align with our core principles, even if those users/communities/instances have not interacted with our hosted communities in any way.

    Core Principles:

    • Respect - All users, regardless of race, gender, sex, or familiarity with the relevant content will be treated with respect and dignity.
    • Authenticity - Disingenuousness, specifically in regards to misinformation, propaganda, spam, or any user operating in a way that could be regarded as not representative of their true intentions, is not allowed.
    • Quality - StarTrek.website (and platformed communities) are only interested in growth and engagement insofar as it is in service to maintaining a sense of community.

I would like to ask then, why does startrek.website continue to be federated with lemmy.ml when that instance routinely violates the second core principle. Authoritarianism is wholly incompatible with Star Trek ideals

  • It's not what they personally believe that most have issues with, it's how they leverage what's widely seen as the "official" developer instance. Whether they like it or not or what they say it is or not, it is recognized as such and as the "public face" it should be governed in an unbiased way, or all politics on it should be banished from it.

If they were running a personal instance for their personal politics that didn't have official Lemmy development and support comms, there would be a LOT more people donating for Lemmy's development

  • Doubtful, the "Exclude from taste profile" thing is actually rather new, it wasn't there before because I've looked for something like it before.

I have a playlist dedicated to archiving the "Discover Weekly" for when I get around to it and it always screwed with the "taste profile" until recently when I noticed there was now that exclude option. Though I don't know when it actually rolled out lol

  • A) There's literally a pinned post in this comm that this post is, essentially, a sequel too.

B.1) One of the things they always say on the Tankie Triad is that their instance(s) are trans safe spaces, how can .ml be a trans safe space with a literal transphobe as main admin?

B.2) There's no place in a just world for transphobia

  • I got one of those automated feeders and flashed it with custom ESP32 firmware so I could tie it in with HomeAssistant and get fancy notifications when it fails to dispense food or it runs out or whatever.

Ofc it also provides a way for me to manually trigger the food dispensal routine, so now I can get scammed from anywhere in the house!

  • Yea, I never said they didn't, and I'm generally a proponent of separating art from the artist.

However, by conflating their official work and furthering their personal politics through the moderation of the lemmy.ml instance (which, whether they like it or not, IS seen as the "dev" or "flagship" or "official" instance) It's not currently feasible to actually donate money while maintaining "separation of art and artist"

If they turned over admin duties of .ml to a new, as unbiased and fair as possible, admin team nearly all the friction for almost everyone to donating would evaporate.

As someone in another thread put it "Devs should do dev work and not mod work, admins should do mod work and not dev work"
