  • Well its been a while, but it looks like proxygram no longer works. Guess stick with imginn.

  • You can still use lite and then use bangs. !ddgi myimagesearch will immediately redirect you to ddg images. Duckduckgo has a plethora of useful quick search shortcuts called Bangs. Even if you don't use lite, bangs are worth looking into inho.

  • I trust a search engine if I can turn JS off and still get results.

I just use Duckduckgo Lite with Ublock Origin, NoScript, LocalCDN, Libredirect, and Chameleon extensions on hardened Firefox fork.

A self hosted Searxng would also be a good option though.

  • Its not perfect, but you can anonymously browse Instagram using imginn.

There is also proxygram, which is similar to imginn, but if you don't want to set up your own instance, you can use others via the Libredirect extension.

Jason Koebler joins the show to chat with Paris and Brian about the looming TikTok ban (that got even less likely after we recorded) and what Mark Zuckerberg is really looking for from the Trump administration. • Lost a decent paying tech job a couple months ago. Not able to land anything. Finally applied for hospitality gig since it was my previous industry. Got the job, but they don't offer health insurance. Debating whether or not to just call it in and say no thanks...

  • Most applications can do just fine with SQLite, but if you need something with a lot more write speed, go with PostgreSQL.

  • Cut off the fascist hand gripping my nipple.

  • I used to work at a cafe. The savviest customers would ask for an iced drink without ice and also a separate cup of ice. It's the smart move and saves you a bit of money.

  • Snow Queen

  • Lol. Raunchy and hilarious concept, as per usual for Oglaf.

  • I use NewsBoat on Linux, but it's a terminal app and not for everybody. On Android I use CapyReader, and IMHO it's quite nice.

  • Makes sense. I just wish it wasn't so obvious how corrupt all this is.

  • God this tweet makes me mad on so many levels. Anyone who has spent any meaningful amount of time in the command line knows this tweet is such bullshit.

    EDIT: Further venting of frustrations.

  • Congrats. Figuring out how to get splits to not slide around can be a challenge. Perhaps a heavy paperweight? I went pretty far personally to make sure my Voyager ZSA doesn't move around. Find what works for you, the whole point of these kinds keyboards is that they end up being highly personalized.

If you really want to go down the ergonomics rabbit hole, check out Svalboard.

    Happy Typing!

  • Yep. Here is the Inside Out 2 scene.

Though there have been multiple variations on the sarcasm as comedy trope. One of my favorites is this Kids In The Hall Sketch. And another hilarious variation on the theme of sarcasm in South Park.

  • Mmm...maybe? I just got back into reading fiction after uhh...almost two decades from the last time I read fiction. I've also been addicted to alcohol and weed in the past. And I've also NOT been addicted to, but used to occassionally enjoy, psychedelic mushrooms. I've also been addicted to exercise, sports, and work.

To me, effective fiction, if comparable to any class of drugs, is closest to psychedelics, and is far less similar to other much more addictive and usually harmful drugs. Both fiction and psychedelics can change your worldview without necessarily having to go through a potentially traumatic experience (though in both the reading of fiction and the experience of psychedelics, it's important to note that trauma can still happen).

Any activity can be addictive. Determining whether an activity is addictive can be based off of whether or not said activity harms your current relationships, damages your physical/mental health, or prevents you from otherwise having a fulfilling life. Thusly whether or not an activity or substance is addictive is somewhat subjective, and dependant on the context under which said activity/substance is participated in/consumed.

Sometimes the desire to obliterate one's sense of self through addiction stems from a turmoil/pain that is markedly worse than the intoxication/numbing they get from their substance/activity of choice. Sometimes there are no support structures or alternative ways of addressing your issues and/or pain.

I'm not trying to downplay or ignore the very serious problem of addiction, as I think addiction pervades nearly every aspect of modern life in both subtle and overt ways, but I do think that we all tend to judge each other for our addictions rather than question why we all seem to have these various addictions in the first place, and I question whether or not our ire and concern would be better redirected at the political socioeconomic conditions that generate these cultures of addiction in the first place.

  • Its a command line multimedia player. It's implementation is ideal for minimalists, and easily understood by reading the man pages.

    It works very well imo.

  • Meh, I'll just stick with mpv.

Factually! with Adam Conover: How Unions Beat Amazon with Stephen Maing and Brett Story

Amazon workers are on strike! It’s no shock that employees are pushing back against the invasive, abusive, and grueling practices of one of the world’s largest corporations. What is surprising, though, is that they managed to form a union at all. Stephen Maing and Brett Story’s astonishing new documentary Union tells the inspiring story of how workers fought against all odds to claim victory over the corporate giant. This week, Adam talks with Stephen and Brett about the uphill battles these workers faced against Amazon—and the challenges they now face trying to find a distributor in Hollywood brave enough to release the film.

first Technical Coding Interview Tomorrow...I already know I'm gonna bomb it

So short background. I'm a self taught web developer who lucked into working at a friend's startup with practically no skills and only a couple basic CRUD to do style apps under my belt. I learned a lot, but never touched DSA. Did this for a couple years. Startup failed to get its last round of funding, and yep, I'm outta work.

My cousin works as a data engineer in a city a couple hundred miles north of me and wants me to get a software job so I can move up there and out of my parents place.

Most of the devs I've met from there are supportive of my journey, but emphasize I need to grind Leetcode. Only been doing that a couple weeks now.

My cousin called me and set up a call with a startup founder. I talked with him this morning and was very honest about my skills. He was also honest and said he needed somebody pretty comfortable with DSA as the application they work on is heavy utilizing ML.

He asked if I'd still like to do a Technical Interview and of course I said yes, making sur

    Asklemmy @lemmy.ml

What opinions about the tech industry do you feel comfortable expressing here, but not in public/at work?

Short disclosure, I work as a Software Developer in the US, and often have to keep my negative opinions about the tech industry to myself. I often post podcasts and articles critical of the tech industry here in order to vent and, in a way, commiserate over the current state of tech and its negative effects on our environment and the Global/American sociopolitical landscape.

I'm generally reluctant to express these opinions IRL as I'm afraid of burning certain bridges in the tech industry that could one day lead to further employment opportunities. I also don't want to get into these kinds of discussions except with my closest friends and family, as I could foresee them getting quite heated and lengthy with certain people in my social circles.

Some of these negative opinions include:

    • I think that the industries based around cryptocurrencies and other blockchain technologies have always been, and have repeatedly proven themselves to be, nothing more or less than scams run and perpe
