I haven't watched it yet but Adam Curtis put out a 7 part series on the fall of the USSR called Trauma Zone
From what I understand, unlike his other documentaries (which are fantastic) this one has no narration.

I saw the trailer for Trauma Zone and it was very creepy lol. Putting aside the stereotypical russian bleakness, you can feel the atmosphere of hopelessness and numbness and desperation as their country falls apart
Yeah it's good. I appreciate the lack of narrayion because it's interesting to see actual ground-level footage of the events as they unfolded.
Oof, my friend recommended Can't Get You Out of my Head after her partner and I were arguing over whether people were literally eating rocks during the Great Leap Forward, and it was pretty hard for me to follow. This is true but all the things in it that are not fictional reflect fairly well on the USSR, if one has the patience and interest to dig into it
