I don't think that's a great idea either, these public proposals create a lot of pressure and assuming she'd decline anyway her gold medal moment would be ruined.

To be fair I've heard of scenarios where they absolutely 100% thought they'd say yes , they talked about it before. and then in the moment she says no. Things can change in the moment. Though I'm sure those are the exception.
That’s assuming they haven’t already discussed marriage and basically agreed in principle. I think modern day proposals should be much more of the “what were you waiting for? Yes!” variety rather than “what are you thinking? No!”
