- isn't that largely the same, Linux desktop has mostly 2 user groups. 1: femboys(tomboys who dress girly and use Linux can also be concidered femboys, normal tomboys as well). 2: people or chads who collect femboys and technology(in case where femboys aren't collected physically or in images, they are collected in the hearth).
  mages and magical creatures and such obviousy belong to both groups in general, though most of them belong mostly to group 1, that said mages who are specialized in being a wizard only more often belong to group 2.

I plan on buying a Linux tablet. I didn't yet, because I suspect the prices may still be christmas-inflated.
When I do, I will have 3 Linux desktops.
- Update me when you do? I want one, but can't afford something that won't work well, so I haven't looked into too hard. Lemme know what you get
- Even if you buy five tablets, won't you still have only three desktops?

I started using Linux for the first time this week after seeing all the linux memes on Lemmy and alot of help from me girlfriend, so hopefully it will be a year of the Linux for me!

- I switched a month or so ago too! Hope you're enjoying it too. I've been learning a lot.
- Welcome! I've been using it for a year and a half now, and the thought of going back to Windows makes me sick to my stomach. This is what it feels like personal computers were always supposed to be, before Microsoft came in and shat their capitalism all over everything.
  Don't give up if you run into a snag, there's tons of documentation online and people willing to help you out. I also think learning how it works is half the fun, but I'm a weird motherfucker.

I am I the only one that thinks 2024 was a great year for Linux Desktop?
Not in any real advancements in Linux, but because Windows in now shit enough 3 of my non-techy friends switched to Ubuntu just to avoid Windows.
Disclaimer: All 3 were gamers that saw me playing the games they cared about on Steam Deck. So it was actually Steam Deck that did the heavy lifting in this example.
I mean, it's not mainstream Linux usage, but it's a damn good step forward, right? Even if it is just people giving it reasonable consideration 😄
Edit: Typo
- I would say the Steam Deck has been the major impetus for Linux adoption for a couple of years now. I know it sealed the deal for me, when I went into desktop mode and learned that KDE is basically Windows but better lol.
  But Linux, particularly Linux gaming, owes so much to Valve/Proton for the direction we're going.
- 2024 was a great start with the release of Plasma 6, and the Pros of Wayland now generally outweighing the Cons.

It's been the Year of the Linux Desktop for for 30+ years now. So any decade now right?
And I say this as a Linux user since Red Hat 5 and Mandrake 6. And I'm typing this from Fedora 40 KDE Plasma........

With any luck, Linux desktop will get the most installations wrapped as an Android app.
- Linux tablet where I can dual boot linux and android (without proprietery shit) would be cool

whenever the following all have happened it will be impossible to stop the year of the linux desktop:
wine uses wayland by default without compromise
steamos releases
color management and hdr are fully supported in wayland.
anticheat gets fucked. -- this will probably come last
