As Epic Games continue ignoring Linux / Steam Deck for Fortnite they're putting it on Windows Arm
Ignoring one smaller market while gleefully supporting another, Epic Games have announced they're getting Fortnite along with Epic Online Services Anti-Cheat on Windows Arm.
I see trash like Fortnite not being available on Linux as an absolute win.
Anti-cheat is always malware (or at best it's DRM), that sometimes reduces cheating in games.
Why are they specifically against Linux?
The market isn’t big enough to warrant supporting a launcher + game on it
Windows ARM is just Windows and as laptops continue to drop x86 it’s worth migrating as well
Also it ensures their engine can support ARM meanwhile it already supports Linux
We know it’s not anticheat because the first thing Epic did when they bought Easy was give it Linux support

Fuck that guy. UT2k4 shipped with a Linux installer that never showed up on steam/gog before they delisted it.
They afraid linux hackers will nuke their game the second they allow them play.
There are so many variations/forks/distros of Linux that it is basically impossible to control the gameplay experience (prevent cheating) in a way that Epic want to. At least that's what they say.
Honestly, that's a pretty idiotic point. Going by that logic, it would also mean that cheating itself would be hard, since not every cheat/hack would work on every system.
Honestly, the main system they would need to work with is the Proton environment. And even games that don't have a native runtime have no problems with more hackers.
It's the same reason why some developers only allow the Steam deck to run their game: they think all Linux users are hackers and would either put pirated copies of their game in the internet or cheat in their games with ease.
