- those are not the .edu ICE is looking for, unless for recruiting purposes
- Why would anyone use their real email on 4chan? I wouldn’t touch it without at least a proxy or two and a vpn.

  You don't need an email at all to post on 4chan. You don't register to use 4chan or post on 4chan. The only logins are for staff. People are making up and spreading rumors that don't even know how 4chan works.

Heard about this just a few hours ago, and have been laughing ever since. This is going to be brutal, there are people who registered with .gov e-mail addresses. As the use of 4chan has been cited to me as potentially disqualifying people seeking security clearance for government, police, or military careers, this hack single-handedly has the potential to torpedo thousands of edgy bois in one fell swoop.
- Keep dreaming. 4chan only has registration for staff. All you have to do to post on 4chan is a captcha. Did you even read the article? It addresses the .edu and .gov rumor as false.

  I've been told that for clearance above reliability that social media use becomes an issue. 4chan was specifically cited to me by the person with whom I spoke. I'd assume that this means any/all alphabet government agencies, but Army was all that I heard about specifically.

This is kind of a nothing burger since most users dont register any details. There is no data to be gathered. The real surprise will be how they got compromised.

- Even bigger question: why would you register on 4chan? Isn't the whole point anonymity?
  
  The only people who would register would be janitors, mods, and admins. There are 4chan passes where you pay $20 a year to skip captchas and have a lower post cooldown which works by associating a token with an IP address. The token is emailed to you and you get reminder emails when the token is expiring so you can renew it. So 4chan would likely have emails for pass users too. Pass users still post anonymously. I don't know the exact stat but I remember the owner saying something like only 1% of users have a pass.

- My god, I just checked that site. The whole thing is a zoo. Millions of years of evolution went into this species only to go down the toilet there.
  
  It's mostly 16–22 year old autistic kid boys from around the western world, so you're not far off in that it's the worst demographic humanity has to offer in terms of internet discourse. I say this as a sperg who's been on 4chan since he was 16 😂
