Sony has suddenly handed out a lot of unexpected bans.
Tried to log in and my account is permanently suspended. I don't do anything close to breaking terms of service and have no clue why this is happening. Found this article and apparently it's not just me. Fingers crossed we get a solution quickly.
Got that yesterday after playing No Man Sky, i had 0 interactions with people, uploaded only given default names of animals to earn nanites, and got perma suspended after exiting.
I got no email declaring why, and till now have not found an contact email.
I had psn plus for like a day, finally decided to have some multiplayer time.
You can still get disc versions of the PS5 and most recent Xbox, and the Switch has cartridge options for most games worth a damn so idk wtf you’re talking about.
I don’t consider the steamdeck a console. There are multiple options to install there anyway.
I spent a generation buying digital games and I kind of regret it. I love looking at my shelf of old games, even if I no longer have the means to play them. It’s a delight to look at them and reminisce—not just about the games, but also about my life and friends from the days when I played them.
Anyway I’ve already permanently lost access to many games as online stores have closed down. I shudder to confront the possibility of Steam not being around forever. But even owning the disc is no guarantee of playability these days. I’ve heard of a few games now whose disc/cart only partially contain the files and you absolutely need to download the rest of the game to play it. I greatly fear that in the future we will look back and find that much of this era was simply not preserved.
That thing about only part of the game being on the disc isn’t surprising in a world of day 1 patches that are sometimes as big or larger than the original game download, but that’s still some BS. It’s one of the reasons I keep holding out for PC versions. I have a huge Steam library, but I still download the cracked versions with all updates and if Steam ever shuts down, or a game gets delisted or made inaccessible, that version will still work.
"Some who have received these suspensions are understandably distraught, as they may have spent a lot of money on digital PlayStation games that they no longer have access to."
That only matters for singleplayer games. If it's multiplayer then your physical copy usually has a key and an associated account which can get banned. Good luck with that.
And there is no need to buy physical, just buy from https://gog.com and backup your installers. Better than physical media.
This is the playstation subreddit. I don't believe that playstation game copies have any such key, it would totally kill the efficiencies of disk production.
This could be a bug but the silence from Sony could mean it is a hack or they have no idea what is causing it either. A simple we are investigating what is going on would help ease a lot of stress.
I haven't been banned yet but I am going to avoid logging in from now on till we know why this is happening.
Mine was permanently suspended some time in the last 24 hours too. Hoping they have a solution. After reading the article it reminded me of the whole LulzSec thing…
