The trick that I've used also works for OCD: Say it to yourself. "The door is locked."

Works pretty well.
- Am I remembering yesterdays door locking or today?
- Speaking it out loud is a great way to remember many things.
  
  "Keys, wallet, phone" as you get ready.
  
  "Door's locked" as you leave.
  
  "Oven's off"
  
  Etc
- The door is locked.
  
  ...just you and me. can I take you to a restaurant that's got glass tables? you can watch yourself while you are eating.

- I also need to do this occasionally, even though I never leave without locking I still need to consciously remind myself of the fact
I got a new car that automatically unlocks when you pull on the door handle with the fob nearby. It's so hard to not pull on the handles after locking to check. I've had the locks fail on me once on an older car so I'm always paranoid.
- I relock, or check the rear door (mine only automatically unlocks when you pull the front door handles)
- Mine uses my phone as the key, I have to point my bum at the door to get it to unlock when my phone's in my back pocket
I got a 9 volt battery three weeks ago for my multimeter, at home I put it aside somewhere the cats wouldn't get at it to play with it and lose it on me.

I haven't seen it since. I have no clue where I could have put the damned thing.
- Get a new battery and in a couple of days the original battery will appear in a place you have checked multiple times.
  
  Ya I picked up another one about a week ago now, so hopefully the first one shows up any day now.
  
  Or you'll go to put the new battery somewhere and find the old one already there.
- Sometimes I put stuff somewhere "safe". Which means I'll find it 2 years later.
I film myself locking the door. I have evidence.
I have a lock that I can check the status of on my phone, and even lock it from my phone if I forgot. It's really good for my peace of mind. No more getting up in the middle of the night to check the lock.
I had this thought all the way to the airport, once. Got on the plane without knowing the answer for sure.

I did lock the door, it turned out.
That's me everyday lol
Wasn't I supposed to ask myself a question!? I wonder what it could possibly be? :-P
