I know this will fall on deaf ears, but the best thing we can do is stop amplifying these people by posting these stories and upvoting them.

- I think the same people would think the same stuff. Just now they travel faster and wider.
  
  I think bouncing ideas off of each other on social media does drive them further into the rabbit hole, and leads them to ideas they might not have gotten to otherwise.
  
  And posting on the internet is like shouting into the void, except more people can hear idiots online than on their shitty AM broadcast.
- Yeah, just because they're posting it on Twitter instead of ranting on street corners doesn't make it a news story.
Which only proves how stupid they are. There is no need for lasers if a simple cigarette but thrown away carelessly is sufficient.

Edit I want to say too, that photo is heartbreaking. It's NOT a black and white photo. I zoomed in on a little spot of red... it was a stop sign.

- There are reports that it was downed power lines. It was super windy which is what also caused it to move so rapidly and with such ferocity.

Yes but conspiracy theorists think that radio waves create atomic structures, so I think it's pretty clear they'll believe any old nonsense.
