This is fucked. They are allowing your tax dollars to be used for Christian Fundamentalist Schools. All that fear mongering about "brainwashing" your kids with CRT and the LGBT-agenda in public schools that never existed, and the Republicans are literally trying to push a religious agenda down the throats of this citizens of this state.
How long before girls are banned from the higher level STEM classes and instead required to take Home Ec and urged to be stay at home mothers and wives, you know, like Harrison Butker and his wife suggested?

It’s worse than that. The money that goes to private schools is taken from public school funding. It’s just another way to further separate classes.
Yeah. It's bad. In case anyone can't see the writing on the wall, they are going to give everyone vouchers so that they can afford to leave public schools and go to private schools and then gut them later.
The vouchers will further tank public schools. Republicans will then be able to argue that public schools are failing, that attendance rates as abysmal, and they should shut down funding to them (and conservative voters will eat that shit up as their entire world view is based on sound bites they got from Fox News). I bet the voucher programs don't last much longer after that once there is no alternative.

I taught in Louisiana in an open enrollment charter school. The charter system there might as well be legal segregation. We were around 90% black students, while the much bigger nicer test-in charter school that we were right next to and could see through our windows all day was like 95% white. Guess what school got all the money, athletic fields, etc. our school didn't even have a gym in the decrepit 120 year old building that was falling apart around us. The two schools were supposed to share the athletic field between them when they transitioned from public schools to charter (post Katrina). The white school built a fence around it blocking access to our students.

I want everyone to know the pain of seeing young black kids playing on our shitty little blacktop court yard with two broken ass courts like a fucking prison yard. And them being stuck behind that fence watching white kids run track, play football, soccer, just having a field. Before Katrina the two schools were a public middle and highschool that shared a sports field in-between them. Then the rightwing and left and everyone of them ghouls took advantage of a city crying for help and they murdered it. Fuck anyone that says a charter, private, or religious organization should take the place of our public schools, and get public funding. I've been to the border wall between San Diego and Tijuana and it felt like that, people so close and completely shut away from me, and an oppressive presence watching over keeping you from taking those few steps to get close and talk through the barrier. I was young and naive still and thought that the civil rights movement won. I learned I was so wrong. Felt like Jack Nicholson in Easy Rider totally out of my element in a world I didn't understand and about to be beat down by the realities of the deep seething malice under every action of the local and state government against the good and benefit of the people. She should be following trump in a corruption trial.
District I worked in has a “magnet school” - still public but you have to test to get in and it’s fairly nice - the rest of the schools are falling apart and literally violate fire codes with how packed they are. State policies let you transfer to whatever district you want.
So what happens is that (white, upper/middle class) parents will transfer their kids into the district to try to get into that school. If they don’t, they transfer to their home district. So the best funded school in the district doesn’t serve kids who live in the district. Only HS with a substantial white population.
It’s bad enough that religions get to freeload and not pay taxes but now they’re trying to take our tax dollars to pay for their indoctrination.
Louisiana was rated the worst state in America. They're cementing that position.

They've been pushing for this for decades, just like the abortion ban. They're slowly getting all the awful things they want.
So does that mean that these private schools are bound to the US Constitution now? Freedom of speech, religion, etc?
This country DOES NOT speak the same language state to state on most topics - education chief among them. The concept of "education" means something completely different in Mississippi versus California, for instance.
There has been a slow motion systematic dismantling of public education in "red states" and things like the increasing prevalence of religious influence on our laws and education infrastructure. These things severely impact the quantity and quality of teaching resources. Republicans want undereducated, easily-frightened and broken people to grow up to not vote, or to vote to perpetuate the status quo that they know (an objectively broken system).
Charter schools are funded by vouchers. At first, you'd have options for multiple schools in most places, then the vouchers would cover less and less each year with you spending more and more out of pocket. Then, religious schools would in turn lower their tuitions (as they can afford to subsidize if it means indoctrinating new kids). The result is that families with less money would go with whatever the voucher covers, which would only be religious schools in more and more areas with tone. That's the plan.
Louisiana is CONSTANTLY at the bottom of the nation in terms of their education offerings. Here's one of those lists: https://www.newsweek.com/most-least-educated-states-america-ranked-1583019. These are craven theocratic fascists and they won't rest until public education is eliminated.
Without looking I’m sure Louisiana is already bottom state in at least a dozen major education metrics. This ensures that ten years from now it will be even more.
Private schools can push certain agendas to your minds for control easier than public schools. John oliver did a special on Charter schools and another on religious schools.
I guess it is time to let them try thier experiment. I think we all know how it will get twisted and perverted. But Louisiana is probably already a lost cause. Maybe we should provide financial assistance to people wanting to move from a red state to a blue state... kinda like internal asylum. It should go both ways of course.
We're been here before. People implement an extreme policy, the extreme policy makes life worse, then they say "the policy was good, but it didn't work because it didn't go far enough."

I agree, the money will end up embezzled and/or the teachers/pastors will be caught having sex with the children. It may change minds, maybe not. Moving the people out is dicey though.

Yeah - one of the most memorable news articles when I did research for my American childhood class was a mom taking a job immediately after her child’s school was integrated so she could send her kid to private school. I invite everyone in the states to check out when their local private schools were founded… there’s usually a clear pattern.
