Unless you’re trans, that isn’t your call to make. You don’t get to decide that it’s ok for people other than yourself to be exposed to slurs. Stay in your own lane.
The key word there was paper. As opposed to plastic, which is what they use for notes in Australia...
I didn't think that could happen just from licking the notes!
Some people are academically gifted. Your flatmates experience was similar to mine, except as well as acing the exams, I failed the written piece assignments that I couldn't just throw together the day before they were due.
Australian dollars are also plastic
I was referring to the money being made of paper
I said paper currency, not currency! I’ve handled plenty of cash, it’s just not made of paper
Plenty of cash, it’s just not made of paper!
I can't remember the last time I handled paper currency

Thanks! We’re in New Zealand at the moment, so may not get anything done in the next week or two, but we’ll get it upgraded as soon as we can!
My ex and I split up many years before I came out. This was pretty much my exs position on me when I came out.
Just landed in New Zealand. Today will be checking out Auckland
I had to when I changed the tyres on my ebike. The slick tyres were smaller diameter than the chunky off road fat tyres I had on there, and I had to tell it the new diameter so that it could correctly determine my speed.
"DEI" is used by bigots as a stand in for "people who aren't white". So your "sort of" sarcasm comes across as racist, because no one, bigots or otherwise, means white folk when they're talking about the importance of diversity.
Ironic racism is still racism, and your intentions don't matter, because it reads like racism. You're lucky you didn't get banned tbh, and the only reason I didn't do that is because I couldn't be sure if you were racist, or just made a fucked up comment without realising how it would be interpreted.

For the most part, VR is a toy at this point. Interesting, but not compelling. The single exception I would say though, where it is genuinely transformational to gameplay rather than just gimmicky, is car/racing simulators and games. Most things, I can take or leave VR. But I can never play a racing sim again if it doesn't have VR. But, even if it doesn't come to Forza, it's no big loss, as there are plenty of VR enabled alternatives out there (though mostly on PC to be fair)
I own Forza 5 on the Xbox, and GT7 on my PS5. Historically, I've preferred the Xbox over the Playstation, but my experience on GT7 with VR on the PS5 basically killed Forza 5 and the Xbox for me.
So if Forza 5 comes to PS5 with VR support, for me, this will be good news. But if it doesn't come with VR support, I won't bother.
And I guess, ultimately, it's bad news either way, because I probably won't be going back to the Xbox whatever they do.
You are more than welcome to create one :)
Came here to make this joke. Was an hour too late...

Accidental renaissance needs new mods
The current mods are long term inactive. I'm looking for one or two new mods to take over the community. Bonus points if you have a blåhaj account.

Community made 196 alternative - !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone
For those who don't want to follow the existing 196 community move, some community members have made an alternative community on blahaj.zone
I am not directly involved in the new community, but I'm happy to share it for those looking for a blahaj based alternative.

HRM straps and breast movement
I'm seeing weird results with my heart rate strap. My ground contact time is really low, but my vertical oscillation is really high! One indicates good form, the other indicates bad form. My subjective experience is that my vertical oscillation is low, but my garmin disagrees.
And I think the reason why is the movement of my breasts. I think they're moving the sensor itself, and confusing its measurements.
Is that actually a thing? I've tried to find research or people talking about it, but all I can find is discussion on the impact of breasts on actual running performance, rather than on the measurement of it.
Neopronouns are not trolling
I've been waiting until after Christmas day to make this post, but some of our communities recently have had a lot of noise and upset over someone that uses neopronouns that most people are unfamiliar with.
So I want to make this clear. A persons pronouns are to be respected. This is true when the user is using neopronouns that you're unfamiliar with. It's true even if you think someone is trolling. Pronouns are not rewards for good behaviour. They aren't only to be respected when you like the person you're interacting with, or if their pronouns "make sense" to you. Trolls, spammers, twitter users, it doesn't matter who they are, your options are to respect their pronouns, or to not engage with them.
I really want to re-iterate the importance of this. Gender diverse folk are undermined, invalidated and questioned at every step of our lives. As a community, we need to be working to undo that, not creating more of it, and that means there is no space for treating pronouns (includ

Is it possible to use windows to run an already existing locally installed linux within a VM/WSL?
I've got an image noise reduction app that I simply can't get working under linux, and that I can't find an equivalent tool for under linux.
I've tried VMs and wine and none of them work. My web searches haven't encountered anyone that can make it work either.
So, I'm at the point where I may need to boot in to windows to do my noise reduction. However, I would really love to be able to access my existing linux install via a VM or the like when I do so, so that I can access my daily driver software (which is all linux) whilst I'm in windows.
Is such a thing possible?
Pied Stilts (Himantopus leucocephalus) - Kedron Brook Wetlands Reserve, Brisbane, Australia - October 2024

New camera in hand, we made a deal with some local gulls. We provide the chips if they pose for us so I can get some photos!
And didn't they oblige!
This fine gull is a Silver Gull (not a Herring Gull) from Australia, and you'll be pleased to know, the chip was caught!

Nicolás Mihanovich, an abandoned cruise ship sits moored on the bank of Rio Iguazú, Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, at the apex of the borders between Argentina, Paraguay and Brasil.
It was originally designed as a luxury ferry between Argentina and Uruguay, but plans were made to turn it in to a floating Casino. The plans stalled, and now the ship sits, largely abandoned
