  • I would personally be squicked out by that age gap because she's young enough to be your kid. But I'm not you or her, it's not my business, right? If your daughter thinks she'll be good for you, the reverse matchmaking is funny, why not at least meet and see how you feel?

  • Maybe the iron skillets. I don't think a day passes that I don't use those. Or my house, it's from the 1940s. Some of the furniture is older than that too, though I don't think there is any one piece I actively use each day.

Truly oldest? Double entry accounting, I use nearly every day and that's from around 1300.

  • They do not do deposit returns here anymore, but even so, most neighborhoods I've lived, people come look through the recycling for aluminum cans to scrap. So I would set them on the side in a tote instead, it was always such old people, moving slowly down the road with a rolling cart. This neighborhood is apparently too bougie for that, even though as far as I can tell we still are never more than 2 blocks from at least one homeless person.

  • Yeah. I actually do like big, occasionally. But also I like everyday sex, and with big guys you need some time between to heal & recover. This is NOT an advantage. Guys seem to think bigger is better, full stop. That's just not true. More pleasure (if you are into that) with a hung guy, sure. But WAY more pleasure overall with more sex.

  • Is that not an ideal size for most? It seems so. Don't think anyone should say they are packing "only 5.5", that's at least average, maybe more. Preferences vary of course, but this seems a crowdpleaser size.

  • Hmm. I would need to first be vaccinated vs. yellow fever, because apparently that hit so hard right then it left only a few hundred people. My own house is from 1940, though it's in the city now it was not developed yet. Holy fuck, it's also Reconstruction right after the civil war.

I don't think I would even try. Would be enough of a struggle finding a way to survive. And if we have learned one thing from science fiction, it's don't mess with the timeline.

  • Hmm.

    1. Absolutely fucked
    2. Still absolutely fucked
    3. Ok for awhile I think. Until I was captured and killed for being some sort of impossible demon, or sacrificed as a prize because of unusual looks. Knives, tools to barter, rope, food. Nothing particularly good for hunting with.
  • Measure your waist monthly. Yep just your waist. For me, I generally see weight loss over a few months of increased exercise. You will get better results with strength training, less weight loss but more lean, so just as much change in volume. Bodyweight will get you there but at some point you may want to pick up weights.

Remember that physical activity does a lot more than keeping your size where you want it. It's good for your mental health, your bones, your heart, digestion, it's an important part of a healthy life, be glad you are able.

  • Yoga isn't competitive, but is physical exercise, that was why the example. Sport in general could be less competitive, and more fun.

There are already lots of categories in competitive sports. Nobody at my kids school was hostile towards the trans kids, that hostility is coming from the state and a few parents and the schools, as far as we can tell, are doing their best to insulate the kids from it.

  • Trans men can't compete against women because that's literally illegal doping. My kid wanted to start T at 18 and wanted to do soccer at school and I had to gently remind him that was not possible, the school isn't allowed to let girls onto the boys team (for sports that have a girls team) and then they could not be on the girls team either.

So that's already handled with existing rules.

I do agree with more categories, if we already have categories, and if there are enough people in a given category to field a team. Schools don't need to rank teams, honestly, they could just stop doing that, let the kids play on mixed teams and be better off. I don't personally know any trans people who think it's unfair they can't do pro sports, though I'm sure they exist.

I do know a lady who transitioned though, did yoga with her and she could still do better more of the things guys are better at, despite being on E for a long time because she still had the shoulders & frame like a guy, weight distribution different. Was also 6'3" but height doesn't confer specific advantage in yoga.

they lose all their muscle mass after transition. Estrogen does that

    Women have muscle mass, WTF?

  • Unfortunately mom & her mom got dementia, so unless something comes along earlier to kill me, or unless we get a good preventative, that is more likely my fate.

No, they weren't overweight or smokers or physically idle, my mom was a professor and kept lifelong friends, really no lifestyle risk factors. Of course that's only on the one side of my family, my dad died of heart condition that I don't have and I'm not sure about his parents.

  • You drive 70mph to work? Your home and work are both right off a highway? Then car seems efficient as heck, I would drive too.

That map is just so weird. There is no road next to the highway? Like, why does that transit loop exist if there's nothing in the middle of that circle, or around the outside of it?

  • I do intentionally only live within a short distance of the bus, always, and am lucky my work moved really close to where I live. Couple reasons biking to work for me is not much longer than driving - traffic is heavy so car travel can be slow. The sidewalk that stretches from near my house to work has few intersections so is reasonably safe, if there are not many pedestrians I take that, if there are, I go a block off the main road down the side road.

On the sidewalk I'm often riding past stationary cars, my coworkers see me pass them.

That's inside the city though. The suburbs here are dire, house farms ringed by stroads.

There ARE times I have to walk the bike across a 6 lane road, going anywhere to the north of me I have to do that, it's not like all the roads are reasonable. That 6 lane road has a bike lane but I wouldn't dare. But the paths to work, grocery, yoga, my daily routes are ok.

  • May I ask how car is 10 minutes and bike 53? And walk over 2 hours? I ride the electric bike to work and it's about 10 minutes ride, vs 4 minutes by car, so roughly double. 20 minute walk, not brisk. It's hot here too, that's part of why I got the electronic bike, walking was making me arrive sweaty.

  • I trust it now, it was just the first couple of times that really freaked me out. My first car was a 3 speed, and not even hydraulic. The next a 4 speed, then a 5 speed (said 4 and "overdrive"), this is a 2014 I bought new and the first time I've had a 6 speed, first time there wasn't a dedicated spot for reverse.

Overall this one is perfect though, so forgiving and easy to drive. Love it. All the tech I want and none of the tech I don't.
