Tankies are authoritarian communists, basically places like Russia and China can do no wrong in their eyes no matter how well supported said fact is. They don't even recognize they nor NK are dictatorships. Basically if you say anything negative about those governments on .ml it'll get removed and you possibly banned
.ml is part of the Triad of instances that they hide out in, the others hex and grad are much more on your face about it, but .ml is more subtle about it tending to just remove non-Tankie view points via mod/admin action and a lot of the official support comms are on there as well because the main devs are also Tankies.
I actually have to use this account to talk about them now to new users now because this accounts instance defed's from them, otherwise they'll just brigade posts and comments about them LMAO my main is @cm0002@lemmy.world
Reddit also has tankies, but there was just so many other users they kinda disappeared into the sea lol

We're not without our cons though, biggest problem we have are probably the Tankies (Authoritarian "communists" who will overlook any wrong doings of China, Russia, NK because they think their governments are the "gold standard"), but here they're mostly on the Tankie Triad lemmy.ml, lemmygrad and hexbear. You have a .world account so you only have to worry about .ml, but on Lemmy you can do a personal instance wide block if you'd rather just not deal with them. Yea, but unfortunately the admins and mods of the Tankie Triad are the biggest Tankies around and enforce that through (ironic, because they always complain about censorship) mod action
So the best course of action, if you're not on an instance that defed's from them, is to not reward their comms with activity. A total boycott, no posts, no comments, no upvotes. With a little luck, all the non-tankie users will gradually shift over

Over time and just leaving it to fate on if those changes are good or bad? Also yes, but without putting in the effort to control it who knows where it'll end up. Like if someone is "an angry person" in their 20s maybe they'll chill out in their 40s...or get worse
