Summary
Trend underlines vast gender divide as election approaches, as experts say some women face pressure to ‘toe the line’ politically at home.
A TikTok trend of women "canceling out" their partners’ votes highlights a gender divide in the 2024 election, with many young women supporting Kamala Harris while their male partners back Trump. Campaigns encourage women, especially those in conservative households, to vote independently, emphasizing privacy through ads featuring voices like Michelle Obama and Liz Cheney. Conservatives like Charlie Kirk and Jesse Watters criticize these efforts, claiming they undermine family values.
Conservatives like Charlie Kirk and Jesse Watters criticize these efforts, claiming they undermine family values.
So Kirk and Watters (among others, I'm sure) believe that individual voters casting their votes independently based on their own judgment "undermines family values." Got it.
It brings up the most damning dichotomy. That women would feel the need to hide their vote for Harris, but men don't feel like they need to hide their vote for Trump. I wonder why that might be.
They are habitual liars. Nothing they say is in good faith. Charlie is a terrorist who helped finance an attack on the capitol, the article should bring that up if they want to cite him as a reference for anything political.
Look, I know women in these situations often have no easy way to get out from the financial situation they're in, or will be alone and unsafe with a vengeful partner. I feel terribly for anyone in that situation, and if I knew anyone like that personally I would offer to help them.
I mean, personally, I'm a financially safe option.
But then you'd have to meet me, and to meet me I would need time and energy to get out of the house, and it becomes this whole thing and I'd just rather not
You want to know why Republicans did a hard course change on mail in voting for 2024?
THIS is why. The husband can ensure the wife fills out her ballot “correctly” in the comfort of their own home, instead of the wife filling it out as she sees fit at the polling station.
“Oh, I’m sorry honey! I’ve got plans to be out with the boys guarding the polling station on election day; you’ll have to stay home and take care of the children. Maybe you can vote next time….”
Oh really? And exactly which values are those? Perhaps that women should obey their husbands commands and be glorified slaves? They can't very well say that quite part out loud yet now can they. That would actually cost them some votes they really can't afford.
My parents have been voting opposite since they met and very rarely had issues. They just don't talk about politics and they've made it work for 40 years. How about be a fucking man stop trying to control your partner. Women had to fight for their right to vote so as far as I'm concerned they can do whatever the fuck they want.
Maybe it's a generational divide or something, but I would lose my fucking mind if my partner for life were braindead enough to support trump. Maybe Clinton v Dole was just a more reasonable thing to disagree with your spouse about (idk, I wasn't there, and I don't care enough to look into it, don't @ me), but a disagreement in 2024 fundamentally is about democracy v fascism, helping people v hurting people, and decency v shameless petulance. A politically split household in 2024 is not a team or a partnership in any meaningful way. Just fucking get a divorce already because you've clearly married the wrong person! There's absolutely no fucking way I could cohabitate with, let alone share a bed with somebody who wants women, children, immigrants, minorities, LGBTQ+ people, and poor people to be punished in every aspect of life for not being financially comfortable, straight, white, cis men. Truly incomprehensible. "But taxes! But gas prices!" No. Just no. You're clearly not actually paying attention if you think that literally anything would be better for you under trump. There would be short term gains at the expense of long term collapse, just like what happened when you gave him the keys last time.
And I don't mean you specifically. Just the rhetorical "you" for anybody it would apply to.
I definitely agree with you there. But my parents are also in their seventies and are set in their ways. My little sister came out as trans and I can obviously tell my dad hates it. My mom doesn't understand it at all so she just avoids the conversation, but she is supportive.
But I also 100% believe that the majority of people voting for Trump don't understand the threat of fascism. The thing about fascism and being in a cult like MAGA is that you don't realize anything is wrong with what you're doing from the inside. They think what they are doing is the right thing to do. Just look up anyone that has escaped from a cult and they will say the same thing. People don't want what they believe to be put into question and will fight tooth and nail to protect it. It's how propaganda works. Like, if someone they trust tells them that Latinos are coming into this country and doing awful things they'd be more inclined to believe them over the stranger they've never met telling them they're stupid for what they believe in.
Not sure it's generational per se, it is probably a combination of everyone needing to wear their politics on their sleeves and often in a very performative way, along with the fact that the qons keep getting more openly crazier and crazier every year and whipping up stochastic terrorism...
It's one thing to have different opinions and another to have a partner that believes a convicted rapist with an unimaginable amount of blood on his hands should lead the fucking army to start mass murdering civilians he doesn't like. The guy is cartoon levels of evil, it's fucking ridiculous.
Thing is people of opposing politics can work together. Trump isn't politics, it's fascism. If we really wanted to see political opposites working together, Republicans could put country first and get rid of Trump with us, once that threat is gone we can go back to being adults with differences
Yeah, but they are there for the fascism. Donnie isn't a bug, he's a feature. As Obama puts it: he didn't build that. Donnie just showed up and slapped his name on the place....once donnie kicks the bucket, the Republiqons will be just as bad as they always have been. Maybe even worse if they find someone who is smarter than donnie to run the joint.
This is actually a fantasy state. The current situation is a natural step along the road that Republicans have been walking since the 70s. The Christian nationalist take over of the party happened long before trump and I don't see any reason why it would recede with his departure.
I don't know them and I'm sure at least of them is a lovely person but I just don't understand how you can be OK with being with someone who gleefully is voting to take your rights away. That just screams either willful ignorance or privilege and I dislike both things.
Because my mom's too nice of a person. She's stuck with my dad through his alcoholism, cheating, and moving 7 times because my dad kept losing jobs. I'm not saying my dad is a good person and I generally think he's a piece of shit. But you know what we do at family get togethers? We don't talk about politics because we all know that we don't agree with each other and we'd rather have a good time with each other than bitch about everything. They're also in their seventies so they'd probably rather enjoy what time they have left with their family.
They should Cancel out their relationship as well. If your partner is willing to vote away your rights gleefully and you stay with them?! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)
High, especially if they're younger. Half of Gen Z and 40% of Millennials have lied about who they vote for in what researchers believe is an attempt to not strain work, familial, or social relationships. 27% Democrats, 24% Republican and I think 20% of Independents.
I mean, I hope they are right, but they seem to be putting an awful lot of faith in the notion that enough women are going to do this in the right zip codes to make a difference.
I mean, I don't think this is an official campaign strategy or anything. It's just a trend of women independently realizing the GOP is bad for them and their husbands don't care...
I fucked Ted Cruz with my lady cock and while he was greasing up in the bathroom I switched his mail in ballot with a 2-for-1 femboy hooters coupon. He'll be so excited he won't notice. Just doing my part
I don't know why you're being downvoted. As a kid, I saw this exact kind of thing play out with my mother several times. Conservatism is a violent disease.
