Yeah, this one was wild. A bunch of our ballot measures went badly, including the heavier sentencing for drugs one getting overwhelming support, even among Democrats. The minimum wage increase also get rejected.
This was apparently the election where people decided to be their worst selves.
It didn't help that democrats had a hard-right pivot by laundering the racist "border crisis" narrative and didn't propose any progressive alternative narratives to anything else.
Californians are the reasons I left California. Just like Americans are the reason I want to leave this country more and more each day of my life, but still, nothing about that first issue has changed for the better since I left.
CA voter here, I think the wording on the ballots was a critical reason for the way these votes turned out coupled with the fact that it's not easy to find information on EVERY SINGLE PROP on the ballot.
I'm proud to say I voted Yes on all except Prop. 36 for increased sentencing. I'm disappointed my votes were overshadowed in some key areas. I'm not going to benefit from any of these measures directly, but I want my Government to take care of its people. That's literally the point. Just a sad time all around this election.
