The fact that a plurality of voters actively chose Donald Trump, again, tells you just how badly the Democrats have failed the People.
You can't just explain it away. The income inequality is worse now than it has ever been. People are willing to try Anything different. Even if it is objectively bad for themselves. Status quo doesn't cut it anymore.
Following the dinner between Trump and Trudeau, where Trump reportedly made a joke about Canadian statehood, Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc told reporters that they knew “the conversation was going to be lighthearted” and that “the president was teasing us.”
Also, anyone who's actually been involved in international politics, LIKE TRUMP DID FOR FOUR YEARS, should know that one does not "joke" in international politics. One assumes that the words coming out of one's mouth will be taken at face value, no matter how many "it was a joke" retractions and posts and apologies you make.
Is this a threat? Does this indicate imminent invasion of Canada soon after Trump resumes power? Is this how he means to deal with border issues, by erasing borders with Canada? What about Mexico? /s
And a people largely indistinguishable from their own.
Edit: Note to self: Subtly pointing out that Trump wouldn't want to invade Mexico because he's a racist is not the way to go in the Fediverse because people will think you're the racist.
I suspect about 40% of the population would approve. Our rural population is very similarly aligned with rural Americans, which is why they’re all rooting that that vapid, low impact Trump-alike Polievre who is running essentially unopposed right now. I can see him rolling over if Trump and his good squad came a-knocking.
It’s also possible that Trump watched the first twenty minutes of the movie Canadian Bacon and thought it was his daily brief.
Canada is like our cousin who has a different last name and never comes to our family reunion and really hopes none of their friends find out that we’re actually related.
"Governor" is the title of the heads of the states of the USA, but not of the prime minister of Canada. He has - probably through stupidity rather than actual malice, not that he is lacking in the latter - basically described Canada as a state of the USA.
