Some proof that the "Anti-Wokes" don't actually care about games

If chuds actually gave a shit about Nier beyond 2B's ass they'd absolutely fucking hate it. Half the characters in Automata are just bi/lesbian disasters and it dabbles in some real gender fuckery.

The original Nier has one of the best written intersex characters I've ever seen and it literally FORCES you to read her backstory and how she was discriminated against because of it.

They don't give a shit about the Nier franchise outside of the amount of porn that it has generated.

My hypothesis is that you could make a game where everyone was a transgender communist and gamers wouldn't care as long as everyone was also a hot anime girl in a revealing outfit
- i think you're right on the money and that's what, i think, all the "why don't the coomers just watch porno" conceptions miss; it's not about them not being able to jerk off to a game they'd never play anyway, it's the realisation that culture can exist without appealing to their sensibilities at all, that game makers can ignore them and do fine after all
  that's why their battlecry is "go woke, go broke" right, "you need us, you can't ignore us" and that's why they lose their shit when games do just fine without them and they have to uncover the blackrock soros DEI sweet baby bogeyman
  
  To analyze things from a pseudo-Marxist dialectical framework, I think that everyone appreciates art that caters to their tastes and is sometimes annoyed when presented with art that does not.
  But like with race, gender, class, etc., the difference is that one party is - or, at least, was - hegemonic within the space.
  I don't really believe that these sorts of anti-woke gamers are different in character or disposition than others within the space, and rhetoric that portrays them as ravening, crazy idiots has ableist tendencies (not to be a scold - I think that sort of thing is fine while "dunking", but should be avoided in serious critique).
  Ultimately, because of their hegemonic position in society they are unable to accept that the cause of the Enshittification of gaming is Capitalism, not solely "Wokeness".

I don't think that's enough for them, or they'd be holding up the Dead Or Alive Volleyball franchise as the pinnacle of gaming. They need the game to be serious, high budget, and critically acclaimed as well, because otherwise I guess their fantasies aren't validated enough for them to feel secure. Even though the fantasy is as tame as "nice butt."

I think chuds are willing to tolerate the queerness in Automata because it's not really a major part of the game (IIRC it's mostly 2B's handler in one or two side quests?) and because they can fetishize them (hence the porn).
Curious to hear your take on the gender fuckery, it's been a while so I might be forgetting. Eve being a guy? The robots emulating human gender despite being genderless? Or something else entirely?

  You raise a good point, but it must be noted that the pronoun selector is front-loaded, compared to the sidequests that are like 20 hours into the game and skippable.
