‘Something stinks’: Elon Musk, congressional Republicans target Democrats’ main fundraising machine

And billionaire Trump donor Elon Musk – who is overseeing the administration’s controversial effort to rapidly shrink the federal government – has criticized ActBlue, seeking to tie it to protests and acts of vandalism against his electric-vehicle company Tesla. He has argued, without evidence to substantiate his claims, that some prominent Democrats – including one who died in 2019 – were funding ActBlue and the protests.
“Something stinks about ActBlue,” Musk posted earlier this month on his social media platform, X.

The big problem with ActBlue is that you donate once, to one specific candidate, and you suddenly get an onslaught of donation requests from everyone under the sun and sending "STOP" doesn't stop it.
I just route it all to my spam and blocked folder.

  Well that, and the Democrats have the audacity to repeatedly spam me for donations while flailing their arms and acting like nothing can be done about the current administration.
- Democrats share their lists whenever each other are in tight races. It's annoying that you end up getting perma-spammed, but I do think ActBlue is providing a good service. They're kinda shooting themselves in the foot because unsolicited emails get flagged as spam and most email providers use crowdsourced spam detect.

With all the money in politics now, and the fact that the campaigns with the most cash behind them almost always win, our representatives don't have to be answerable to voters any longer. They just have to be answerable to the people spending the most cash.
Even then, the corporations and foreign entities that fund most of the campaigns right now just throw their cash behind the winners if the person they initially supported loses.
In the minds of people like Leon, you can literally buy elections simply by outspending the candidate you don't like--and, looking at the statistics, he's right. Then, even if they lose, they just chuck a bunch of money at the winning candidate. These people have no ethics, no respect for law, and they would rather destroy our institutions than have them work against them. And, unfortunately, they're so wealthy now that they can, in fact, destroy our institutions.

With the levels of dissatisfaction with Dems, does it even matter? Isn't it time to form a progressive party and splinter off?
- A progressive party would be doomed from the start, the dichotomy of us politics is an issue of inertia not party availability. Unless both parties splinter simultaneously how could it possibly be successful? You think the american people are generally progressive? Look at this last election!

- There's no need for that. Progressives can assume control of the Democratic party. That's how it's supposed to work in the first place.

  Yeah, he's trying to declare any fundraising done by democrats as "fraud." What I'm saying is that Kamala and the DNC are once again completely out of touch, thinking the original rules are still in place and we're playing the same game we were 10 or 20 years ago. They could raise all the money in the world and it would not matter. The bigger the number, the louder Elon will yell fraud. Reality doesn't exist anymore.
