I am officially done buying games on release. None of these games are worth 80 bucks.
Do you wanna spend 80 dollars on a new game, or wait a year and buy it for 10 dollars when it works and is actually finished?
WHERE CAN I PRE ORDER IT FOR 120 DOLLARS TO PLAY IT 3 DAYS EARLY AND PAY TO BE A PLAYTESTER?
Like i'm not surprised why games are this expensive.
That's the kicker. Getting games on release now feels like early access. I've been hyped for a few games in day one and there's either server issues, driver issues, crashes, what have you. These things are so rushed they need a year to be finished.
By then you'll know if it flops too, avoid getting caught in the hype.
Time to join patient gamers who wait for a sale
You can probably wait for this one to be free, or at least bundled.
People are struggling to buy groceries.
CEO: Let's raise the price of a good people don't need because money.
I can only hope this move backfires spectacularly.
It's The Outer Worlds. It will.
The first game was shit. The game it was confused with became the greatest game ever made. Go buy that one instead.
No man's sky is not anywhere near the greatest game ever made. Id honestly take outer wilds over either game being discussed. Outer wilds has a charm that's impossible for a AAA studio to match, and it's a solid gravity sandbox besides that.
The NMS game loop is just trying to make number go up as efficiently as possible for nanites and credits. It's not fun. It is and always has been a grind.
What game was it confused with?
NVM, I just realized it was No Man's Sky. Though I seem to recall that the launch of that game was also a shit show. I've heard it got much better as time went on.
Oof. I love Obsidian, I really do, but The Outer Worlds 1 wasn't at all the kind of game I was looking for. NPC's felt very cardboard-y, each and everyone you had to talk to was anchored to one place, the world didn't feel lived in or alive.
And then asking $80 for a sequel to that?
That's gonna be a no from me dawg.
It was also short. For 80 dollars I would expect 120 hours in game like RDR2. That's the bar. If it's not that long, I think I finished the first one in 25, then I'll happily wait until it's lower
RDR2 is such a slow-burn masterpiece that I'm still enjoying that game years after it released. The game is longer than 120 hours given how it implies you take your time and enjoy the views, the immersion and the story.
RDR2 was deliberately designed to be a high inertia experience that takes its sweet-ass time to start off and difficult to slow down when its going.
I loved The Outer Worlds, it was just my kind of game, but after having watched the new trailer for The Outer Worlds 2, I am worried, the story seems unfocused and messy and some of the weapons seems to just be a big generic blob design.
This being said, I will do what I normally do, wait until release and watch as my favourite youtube gamer shows it on his channel, after one or two episodes I'll buy it and stop watching if it is good.
That and the completely garbage inventory with no good filter and sort.
That first game felt like a demo with lot of polish but didn't feel like a precursor for an $80 game. And already cost me $30 for the first time of meh.
Same. I was willing to keep Outer Worlds 2 on my radar because I love Obsidian and they've earned my attention even though I didn't particularly enjoy Outer Worlds 1, but at that price point the game has dropped off my radar. Unless it's getting New Vegas level praise post launch I probably won't be paying any more attention to this game.
Similar. Although I happily leave it at my wishlist and buy it once it's diacounted like $15... I still have way more games to play than I can manage.
Ya'll remember when pirating was massive.
Yeah let's do that again.
Lol $100 games haha
It’s almost funny that the most recent trailer ends with the line “the game about capitalism, made by capitalism.”
That’s more sad than funny
I'll promise not to reply for a nominal fee
You can't stop me >:C
Yea, no thanks dawg. First game was boring AF, and on top of that, now you want 80 bucks?
I'll wait a year or two.
I don't mean to sound mean or dismissive, but... I feel like I'm the only one who played the first Outer Worlds. It just feels like it's one of those things that was supposed to be a thing, but wasn't a thing.
Don't get it twisted, I'm not complaining that they're making a sequel. I'm relieved and hope it does better, I just remember more people complaining about Outer Worlds than talking about it. So I'm hoping this second chance for the franchise really helps it get off the ground (Unless it was a big hit and I'm just badly misinformed about how well it did)
But that 80 dollar price tag? Lemme tell you that's not a consumer friendly choice, that's Spacer's Choice.
Outer worlds just felt so uninteresting to me. I played it, and it was a forgettable experience imo
Parvati was the only light in the darkness for me. I love her and her quest line, and hope there's more good ace rep like her in other media.
I stopped playing the game as soon as I finished her quest line because I was bored with everything else =\
I also found it underwhelming which is a shame because I generally love Obsidian RPGs. They did a much better job with Avowed recently in my opinion.
I played it in the hospital waiting for my wife to go into labor haha. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I remember it. I tried to replay it recently and made it about halfway through before moving on.
I ain't paying $80 for it and there's no game pass on Linux. Guess I'm waiting for a sale. 🤷
I was interested in Outer Worlds and No Man's Sky around the same time and played OW first.
I enjoyed it while I played it and completed the story of the main game.
Then I played NMS and enjoyed that a lot too but when I went back to OW for the DLCs I got bored quickly.
Outer Worlds just seemed less fun after No Man's Sky.
$80 is twice the annual mountain biking pass at my local state park.
Not a chance.
Don't worry everyone, it'll proabably be on gamepass on release. You should all get that /s
Ugh. I hate subscriptions, people parroting this "just get gamepass, it's cheaper" is just silly. Once they got you hooked in- they'll increase the prices for sure.
Like others said, it is mostly done to make gamepass more appealing vs the 80 bucko's.
I say No to either and settle for i'll wait for a nice good sale at some point in future time.
No thanks. The first was not good enough to warrant buying the second at $60, let alone $80.
Agreed. $40? Id think about it and probably wait for a sale anyways. $80 is just laughable and completely removes any temptation i had to check it out.
Best of luck with that. I got the first game for free and still haven't played it. I say that as a fan of obsidian/old Bethesda i.e. the person you should be trying to get buy your game.
It's kinda mid, id suggest Tainted Grail if ya want a Bethesda like game. Doesn't quite scratch the itch but it's close enough.
Better than Starfield as a sci-fi RPG. Had some pretty boring balance choices imo. Dialogue was decent but I didn't really love anything.
Yeah, I don't like it, but mid is fair... And I'll buy #2 anyways if the reviews hold up.
People are free to complain about the price point but it's pretty absurd to think gaming is somehow immune to inflation.
I'm now replacing this game with Clockwork Revolution to keep an eye on since it's the producer of the first 2 fallout games.
I've seen some previews, looks cool!
Was there a big contingent of people waiting for a sequel? I recall the original game being massively hyped and actually being pretty disappointing once I played it.
That's funny, it's my first confirmed "wait until it's on sale" game
Same here, though I heard middling reviews for the first game, so I probably won't play it regardless. Not that I'd pay $80 for a videogame anyways, lol. Even if it was HL3.
even if wages increased with inflation and 80 dollar games weren't so distressing, the first outer wilds fucking sucked and I have no hope for the sequel
I don't know. It seems like they're addressing the issues that the first one had. It was too safe and far too full of itself. It should have just been one big planet and a bit less goofy. Seems like the next one is shaping up for that. Also, if there is a game company that I trust right now it's obsidian. I was super disappointed with the ending just being the same slides they used for new Vegas, hopefully we at least get a more satisfying ending.
It was okay
Nah. I’m good.
Wanna know how i know inflation, cost of living increases, supply chain bottle necks and price increases are all a bunch of fuckin bullshit? Im still paying the same price for an 8th or Oz of weed as I was paying 15-20 years ago in highschool. The last samurai of the lost world of privately owned businesses before corpo whores ruined the world is you friendly neighborhood drug dealers. Lol
Does the quality differ? I think it makes a great discussion and maybe a good analogue of current economic state of affairs
Edit. Nvm read quovadishomines post
I have paid roughly the same price for 3.5grams of cannabis since 1992. The quality has vastly improved but the price remains the same. That does not suggest that inflation is bullshit.

Do you live somewhere where it's still illegal or something? Because I used to pay like $40-60 for an eighth depending on how good it was before legalization and now I can pay like $6 for an eighth of mids or $15-20 for some good shit.
Not sure why they didnt fix their comment but here is the comment that was meant as a reply to your comment but was mistakenly left as a reply to my top level comment. Its originally from @bathing_in_bismuth

Guess I'm waiting another two years after launch for this one too.
Two years after The Outer Worlds: “oh mods will make it better, I got it for free”
They didn’t.
I respect the same for the second game. But also free. And wasting SSD space.
Did microsoft really already forget about Doom The Dark Ages?
Thought it said Outer Wilds 2 for a split second and got excited.
From what I've heard of the plot of that game, this is kind of apropos.
And I will be skipping it.
Audacious, if nothing else.
It literally took 30 years for the most expensive games to go up by $10.
Charge $80 fine but no dlss crap , native ONLY , optimized ONLY , run like DOOM
oh so now its 80 where the prices are. at this rate it will be 200 within couple of years.
