FYI, the article title is responsible for calling PragerU a “University”, not me! (community post guidelines)
Prager U is specifically named Prager U because they aren't a university and therefore can't call themselves Prager University. Let's not give them any more legitimacy than they deserve which is none.
It's even more absurd to see it referred to as a Conservative University. They wish
Just means this website fell for it. If enough do they'll become synonymous with conservative education which is the point.
Didn't Florida just announce they were going to use PragerU videos in their curriculum? They might be getting to calling themselves a real university sooner rather than later...
PragerU is not a real university.
I get the feeling that the Republicans are going to start openly running with a "bring back slavery" platform. I feel like I'm being hyperbolic here, but their mask has gone off so far, really since Obama was elected. All they have left is hate.
They're letting DeSantis carry that torch, like they did with Trump with his open corruption, hate, lack of accountability, racism, etc. If he wins then suddenly it's okay because it's just politics, both sides, just an opinion, etc.
"What did the culture and society at the time treat as no big deal?" Are they aware that even at the time at lot of people thought Columbus was an asshole? Even when not including the natives.
In Europe. The abolitionistmovement started not long after slavery. Most of of the newspapers in England had articles portraying slavery as a positive pleasant enviroment. Purely to try and remove the political power of the abolitionist movement.
Not much has changed really.
Another fun quote: "Being taken as a slave is better than being killed, no?". Plenty to grab from that quote, but there are reports the indigenous people got so depressed excited to enter the kingdom of heaven they essentially did nothing for as long as they could, simply waiting to die.
Also I watched this full video, because I feel like it's important to get full context of these things. I learned some other stuff:
Columbus, slavery = forgiven!
There's a good 3-part Behind the Bastards episodes on Columbus. If anyone hasn't had a listen it's a great overview of what Columbus really was: a bastard.
Hardcore History (I know, Dan Carlin is looked down upon by proper historians, but I still think he has value as a storyteller and he does cite his sources) and Our Fake History both had multipart episodes on him too.
Spoiler. He ends up committing some light genocide.
"Prager University" not an actual university.
It's like saying I have a degree from BBQ University only not as tasty.
If you're more interested, a YouTuber over here went over PragerU propaganda in this kids show, and I think it shows something important about how propaganda can present a certain world view as well as hide it. Prager U For Kids: A Horrible YouTube Channel
well, that’s very horrible!
Locked, loaded, and ready to fire! I am sorry about decreasing your faith in humanity, and sorry if I throw a lot at you.
And here are a few to restore your faith:
Happy watching, and keep dreaming!
Yeah slavery was no big deal, and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki just left people with a couple of burns is all.

Japan should be thanking us! Look at how successful it is, now! So us bombing them has only been helpful.

I feel sick after that
Oh cool. In case anyone didn't see this the other day: https://thehill.com/homenews/education/4141994-what-is-prageru-the-conservative-education-platform-now-in-florida-schools/
So we can expect that they'll be showing these cartoons to kids in public schools in Florida. So that's super fucking cool.
Of course they do
The ruling class want slavery. They want everyone slaving at subsistence wages to make them richer. Really, Trump's big contribution to Republicans is showing that you can say the quiet parts out loud. Openly destroy rights, praise dictators, threaten political opponents, ignore conflicts of interest and calls for recusal, open bribery at the highest levels, unqualified cronies in positions of power, threats against the legal system, cries for insurrection. The power of the people has been systematically erased.
