Its a great show. Binged it, and while they lean way more into Bethesda's own games, they absolutely do not leave out the first game through New Vegas and pay homage quite a bit.
People complain that it leans towards bathesda fallout. Well Bethesda fallout games have sold like 50 million copies while the first two only sold like 750k, so it's no surprise they're leaning on the more popular version.
That's such a stupid take. That's almost like saying if they're going to make a movie about a COD game they should take inspiration from Ghosts and not the OG modern warfare, because Ghosts sold better than OG Modern Warfare. Doesn't matter that the story of Ghosts is one of the worst in the series and MW story is arguably the best in the series.
If you're going to make an adaptation you want what is the best quality, not what is the most popular. Popularity doesn't necessarily mean quality. That said, I don't care where the show leans, my expectations were already so low that simply getting it in the right ballpark was a win. But could've it been more true to the source material considering where it takes place? Absolutely.
It really shows the relative incompetence of MS/Bethesda how we didn’t get a new game or at least a remake next to the show (like Sony did with TLOU). They have a great universe, and now it’s more popular than ever, millions would be happy to pay for a modern Fallout game, me included.
Edit: or maybe they are just focusing on milking F76, which is still a bad choice, but at least has some (corporate) logic.
I wonder how many of them are just getting the games to learn who the hell the factions are because the show really didn't say a helluva lot. I mean shit, they had a big reveal about one in the end, and if I hadn't known them from the game the impact would have been lost entirely.
It's definitely awesome as a fan. I'm interested in how non-fans enjoyed it though.
My brother never played fallout, the show left him wanting to find out more about the world, so I guess that's why they were somewhat vague. Also leaves more to explore in season 2
That's pretty on brand though. You can definitely complete the games without really learning much faction lore at all if you want. It's there for people who want it, but the basic story barely even scratches the surface of you don't do the extra reading.
Something to note. This doesn't explicitly mention sales, just concurrent players. That isn't to say there weren't sales, but this just indicates people going back to play the games more than it does explicitly mean there was a bunch of new sales.
76 is having a free to play week, which will definitely boost the number of players. It was interesting at first, but the more I play it the more the MMO aspects make me want to go back to Fallout 4 and NV.
Is there a mod that would decouple it from online play entirely? My biggest gripe with 76 is that the enemy behavior is janky as fuck because of lag; the monsters shouldn't be rubber-banding when I'm in a solo room.
Can you even play solo without anyone around? I tried but I kept seeing other players in stupid outfits running around and it was annoying. I just want to play it as if it's any other fallout, on my own
I played that once and didn't like it. I was trying to play on my own single player, and kept seeing players running around in stupid outfits and it took me out of it
