So this is a thing that has happened before and by definition isn’t “defying history”?
Why are they starting the clock at 1836? Does it sound less impressive to say that 2 sitting Vice Presidents have won an election? For that matter, why don’t they start it at 1988 and say no vice president has been elected in 46 years? Is that also not impressive enough?

So 1 out of the last around 32 elections have had a sitting vice president win the election. How many of those elections had a sitting vice president running on the ticket?
Seems like one of those "this is the first time in history a quarterback has thrown a ball for over 300 yards 3 days after an eclipse" type stats they do for sports.
