Employees at a discount supermarket chain in Germany found 95 kilograms (210 pounds) of cocaine stashed inside crates of bananas, police announced on Monday.
The drugs are reported to have a street value of around €7 million ($7.8 million).
Police did not name the supermarket in question, but said the drugs turned up in several cities around the western state of North-Rhine Westphalia.
Somewhere in Europe, there is a very disappointed drug dealer staring at a number of boxes that contain nothing but delicious, healthful South American bananas.
If I found money I'd take it. But wtf would I even do with all that cocaine? I have no idea who I would sell that much to without getting arrested or killed. I would just turn it in and ask for a reward
There was a reddit post years ago, I think from /u/borax, with guidance on this scenario. Essentially he recommended splitting the cocaine up into Mason jars and burying them. As long as you were patient and didn't tell anyone, you could have a lifetime supply of coke to sell or share with your friends.
Something like this happened at a fruit distributor in the Netherlands and they called the cops. Arrests where made but due to a fuckup during trial a full list of the fruit companies employees where left in a file that went to the defence. One lawyer refused to remove it and several years of threats and attacks on the fruit distributors personell followed.
