  • I'm just fucking exhausted. That's all. I go to bed exhausted, wake up too early, exhausted.

  • About 6kg of cherries have now been picked. Probably that much again left on the tree if I was feeling enthusiastic enough to pick them.

Now I need to work out what to do with them - they are cooking cherries (morello), not sweet eating cherries. I'll probably just pit & freeze them for now and do some baking later.

    • Try drying them. Pit a trayful and put them on a lined baking tray in a very low oven - 30-50 deg - basically the defrost function if your oven has one - with the fan on. Stir them about every hour or so until they dry to snapping point. Or stop at the shrivelled but still bendy stage and freeze them in a vacuum bag. I've heard of people drying them in a microwave but I've never done that and don't know how. Dried cherries are a wonderful snack and really add something to cakes, mince pies etc. I've put them in chook stuffing too. Use them anywhere that calls for sultanas or currants or raisins.

      • I've dried cherries before and didn't really use them. I might do a few to go in the next fruit cake I make - I have a dehydrator, which makes it much easier than the oven method. Although it is currently filled with chicken scraps destined for dog food, I really need to get onto packing that away too.

  • Morning plans: mow grass. remove excessive amount of fennel from the front garden. plant some volunteer cherry tomato seedlings along the front fence. pot up some basil plants from the supermarket in the hope they can regrow. somewhere in there I should do washing too.

Edit: I need to add "pick cherries" to the list.

  • Family and I are playing Whamageddon this year, and three people have already ascended to Whamhalla, 4 days in 😂

I just want to thank the Woolies strikers for the lack of stock, because I've been going to Aldi's instead - they don't play music 😂😂

Remember! Remixes and covers don't count! And you only ascend if you recognise the song :D

    • Omg. I didn't know this was a thing. 😂

      • Last year we did Whamageddon and whatever Mariah's one is, but all of us have heard Mariah in the last week before December started, so we vetoed that one 😂😂

        Edit: the rules

    • Ooh ooh ooh I'm in. I don't go to colesworth much and have done all the kmart shopping I need for this place (hopefully), and won't be taking any taxis/ubers this month, so I THINK I might have a crack at surviving this one.

      • Join us!!!! More are always welcome to join in this Christmas Horror 😂😂

Remember! You gotta call it out if you get got!!!

Fingers crossed we both make it to the 24th 😂😂

  • I bought two punnets of lettuce seedlings. They seem to do well for me and we eat them up. Other garden stuff is doing well too. Mostly tidying really.

and the young Seagoons will be coming to Australia in 10 days to stay with us 🙂 I better get everything ready. So excite.

  • My many new plant friends arrived in the mail today. It was almost a disaster - I received the notification they had been delivered, but there was no sign of them. Fortunately I eventually found them in the carport behind my car.

They have had a tough journey, but they are now relaxing in my seed raising area under the grow lights. Hopefully the basil makes them feel welcome.

It might be a challenge to identify all of them as some of the writing has rubbed off the pots.

  • Many extremely nervous presenters at this conference. Buck up people you have really interesting things to say!!

  • Basil has been trimmed and moved into it's new pots. The one at the front doesn't look to have a good root system, which is why it is trimmed so much - I won't be surprised if it just dies anyway. The other two had good healthy roots, so I expect big things from them! The trimmed leaves have been chopped up and frozen in oil in ice cube trays.

  • Kmart and Big W have this problem, their click and collect can be really slow.
