Instead of "X", how about we all call it "the website formerly known as Twitter" from now on?
Instead of "X", how about we all call it "the website formerly known as Twitter" from now on?
Worked great when the artist formerly known as Prince changed his name to a symbol.
How about we just stop mentioning it at all?
154 2 ReplyNah. Prince changed his name to stick it to the record label that was fucking him over. That was his livelihood at stake.
No one needs Twitter. I don't even have an account.
50 1 ReplySaw someone on lemmy calling it 'Ten', thought that was quite funny.
26 0 ReplyI prefer "the ex social media platform"
25 0 ReplyI just call it the "I stopped caring about that site a long time ago" site.
24 0 ReplyI'm still calling it Twitter. Always will.
22 0 ReplyI don't call it anything because I don't really talk about it.
20 0 ReplyHow about we don't talk about it at all?
18 0 ReplyWho fucking cares? How about we just don't mention that piece of garbage.
17 0 ReplyWould rather just not talk about it
17 1 Reply10/Ten Elon would hate it.
14 0 ReplyI’ll continue to refer to it the way I do now, which is to not refer to it at all.
13 0 ReplyThe amount of posts about Twitter and Musk are flat out disturbing...
14 1 ReplySeeing what Elon Musk wants to do with it, we should probably be calling it "spyware".
12 0 Replywould be funny if everyone just started calling it "ten".
11 0 ReplyWe got "#Birdsite" on Mastodon for ages, seems fitting to just continue with that to me! ;)
11 0 ReplyI will just keep calling it Twitter just like I still say Hotmail.
10 0 ReplyJust call it Twitter. They're going to either go back to the old branding, or they'll be out of business shortly enough that it wouldn't even make sense to bother referring to it as X.
It's Twitter.
10 0 Replyjust call it "Ten" like roman numerals
10 0 ReplyToo long. I call it shitter.
10 0 ReplyAlternative suggestion: just let the shot crash and burn and don't spend your time on an alternative platform obsessing about a different platform. Same for reddit.
It really doesn't make this platform better.
9 0 ReplyI kind of like Xwitter, since the X almost looks like a sideways T, almost like it's gone into disrepair and fallen over, like a billionaire idiot had stopped paying the bills or was sabotaging it with his incompetence.
10 1 ReplyI vote for shitter.
10 1 ReplyI prefer the name Null, just ignore it and move on...
9 0 ReplyI would prefer to just not talk about it.
7 0 ReplyOn that note, I suggest we rename Reddit to Fuckit
8 1 ReplyI'll keep calling it what it is - Twitter
8 1 ReplyI’m fond of “Titanic”.
6 0 ReplyI call it Larry.
This was the name used for the Twitter bird from 2010 to 2012 before redesigning it into what we had before 𝕏.
6 0 ReplyUh I'm gonna keep calling it twitter. I still call Facebook by its real name too.
5 0 ReplyI am going to call it twatter just to make people have a moment of "wait did he say what I think he said or did I mishear him?"
5 0 ReplyNo, because that would imply Musk and Twitter is on the same level as TAFKA Prince.
5 0 ReplyThe eX-Bird App?
5 0 ReplyFormerly Known as Twitter is too long .... FKT hit it on a few levels.
5 0 ReplyI say just let it continue to lose its brand value by muddying the waters.
5 0 ReplySo does a "tweet" become a "message/action formerly known as a tweet?" That's gonna get tiresome reeeeeal fast.
I love it.
"I was on the website formerly known as Twitter and I read this really funny message formerly known as a tweet about how Elon Musk is totally botching the website formerly known as Twitter. I totally action formerly known as retweeted it."
4 0 ReplyI liked the idea of pronouncing it "10" like the Roman numeral. It's not necessarily incorrect, and it fucks with Elon's ego
4 0 ReplyIn short, ex-twitter?
4 0 ReplyThat is long, lets acronymize it: TWFKAT, pronounced twif-cat.
4 0 ReplyxXxx
4 0 ReplyHow about we keep calling it Twitter, because big shitty companies don't get to have the privilege of rebranding so we forget how shitty they are.
4 0 ReplyTwitter's eX
4 0 ReplyI for one think X is a very cool name. Nice rebranding!
5 2 ReplyI'm still calling it twitter.
4 1 ReplyKeep calling it twitter.
3 0 ReplyJust refer to it as “My X”
2 0 ReplyI prefer twatter
2 0 ReplyLet's just make it a symbol.
I propose two lines on top of each other on the diagonal.
3 1 ReplySome publications often do this. At least on Reuteres, as well as other news sites, I've seen that Twitter/X is now referred to as "X, formerly Twitter", probably to avoid confusion.
But "the website formerly known as Twitter" is just too lengthy for everyday conversation. I just call it Twitter, everyone knows what it means
2 0 ReplyCan we get it to wear assless chaps while we're at it?
2 0 ReplyThe eXsocial media company.
2 0 ReplyShitter?
2 0 ReplyI've been having fun writing a dumb userscript to help me cope with this.
Yes, it can put back a bird of your choosing as a logo, but why stop there.
Instead of tweeting on Twitter, I can now spez on Reddit, skeet on Bluesky, or just eXecrate on X, the Elon way.
It's ridiculous and pointless, and I'm not sorry.
2 0 ReplyI never stopped calling him Prince 😂
1 0 ReplyThis post isn't even a question
1 0 Reply🍗 (the website formerly known as Twitter)
1 0 ReplyJust because he has money, doesn't mean he gets to tell you what things are called.
They changed the name of the millennium dome in London to "the 02 Arena".
I'm not letting you pay someone else for me to say your (unrelated) brand's name in private conversation.
If Verizon sponsored the Whitehouse and said "it's called the Verizon Democracy Centre" now, what would you call it?
2 1 ReplyI'm calling it the "X-porn". :^)
2 1 ReplyThe logo should have the Twitter blue bird as seen from within an X reticle while being shot dead.
1 0 ReplyY'know, they changed the name of an avenue nearby my childhood house from a single word name to the name of an obscure politician. This happened 30 years ago. People in the city still refer to it as it's old name so much that they might not even know the current name.
1 0 ReplyPersonally I call it "Gone, but not forgotten"
1 1 ReplyI'd really rather forget it forever.
