  • Right, so Nellie is up for renewal. Ought be one more email. Shall I or does anotherbody want this year?

  • You know that feeling when you're too hot and tired to feel hungry but you know you'll regret it in bed if you don't eat anything... yeah that's me right now.

I've worked 23 hours over yesterday and today. That's ridiculous. I really hope I sleep in on Wed morning. Maybe make myself an omelette for breakfast. It's a bit silly now how much I'm avoiding cooking in this kitchen. Right now all I need to do is soak some rice noodles in hot water, drain and rinse, and stir through premade vegan larb. C'mon, I can do this. It's not even cooking.

Edit: yay I did it. In a pan, on the stove, with frozen veg to bulk it up. Now I have 3 meals worth of food. Easy.

  • Bit of a rant coming up.

Went to my GP to get a referral for a minor procedure. Referral was sent to the surgery clinic (Western Health), I was told it takes about 5-7 days for the surgery to send a confirmation text and set up an appointment. It's not urgent but needs to be done.

After about 2 weeks, hear nothing, call the surgery clinic, turns out they didn't receive the referral. As GP to send another one, and now have to wait another 5-7 days to actually find out it was received.

So either the referral wasn't faxed the first time OR it was misplaced at the receiving end.

I'm not really interested in investigating any further (like asking for sent receipts from my GP), but it's pretty frustrating.

Private is not an option due to lack of insurance and costs unfortunately.

  • That humidity-less breeze is beautiful. I’ve got the windows open to let it in the house.

  • And for the second time in two weeks I've had "your interview was fantastic, we really loved you, but we've gone with an internal candidate this time." Arghhhh

    • That sucks. Those roles might have been advertised as per org policy, but they already had internal staff lined up.

      Don’t give up!

  • Entire balcony scrubbed and tidied. Outside table wiped down.

Too hot to do the bathroom right now though; the lightbulb blew, and the only ones left are the heat lamp ones. So fuck that!

I'll leave it for my partner to do when they wake up lol

  • My son's school is hoping to have their outdoor Christmas Carols event this afternoon.

    At this stage I'm thinking it's a 50/50 possibility.

My son is singing Feliz Navidad - one of my all time faves.

    • Will he be singing solo?

      • He does one song with his year group and a medley of song with his choir group.

They decided to cancel the event but record all the year groups doing their performances. It's something.

    • I read somewhere that the percentage data shown does not relate to the probability of rain in your area but the percentage of greater Melbourne that will get rain

      • Make sense, but dammit! I wanted to go outside in the rain 😭 I'm braless and wearing a white tank top too, so all the boys are missing out lol

  • I guess it's insurance day today, after sorting the car I moved on to finalising the forms for Income Protection. So much money, and the premiums just keep going up the older I get. It does make the car insurance seem extra cheap in comparison.

  • Through some sort of weirdness of the insurance industry it has turned out to be cheaper to get comprehensive insurance for my car than third party. Renewal of the third party with RACV was going to be just over $500, a basic comprehensive policy with AAMI is $342. Even with AAMI the third party policy would have been more expensive. I have no idea why, but obviously the underlying risk assumptions for the policies have some sort of different risk calculations that work out in my favour.

    • I wonder if it is to deter people from taking out 3rd party only?

      • My 3rd party with AAMI was $200/yr.

      • It does not seem to be an across the board thing, just Suncorp and AAMI (apparently Suncorp bought AAMI recently, so basically the same company). And RACV had lower premiums for including fire & theft than without.

The comprehensive insurance gives you a few more options with excess and amount insured and I thought it might be the difference, but even making sure the excess was the same it was cheaper to have comprehensive. I won't complain - but I will budget for an increase next year in case it is a one-off glitch that won't be repeated!

    • I’ve got to sort out new car insurance soon, so all the comments about it today are really helpful. Have been with RACV for years but it might be time to switch

  • Uh oh, I continued working after coming home from a 9h day in the office and only just finished at 12:20 for like a 14h day... this is the danger of having a nice cozy wfh setup. And stimulants after a 2 day break. Too easy to lose boundaries :')

At least the overdue stuff is all done, but I've got three more things to start and finish by the end of tomorrow so they don't get overdue. Stupid pre-xmas rush and poorly timed leave. So glad for the flexible hours.

Also some slightly disgruntled feelings over finding out a hack who left my former workplace basically straight-up copied the eork I did there at their new employer, where i knew they're paying big $ for this person's "skills"... not cool, not cool at all. Basically slapped a new logo on top... but due to confidentiality reasons with my current work client I can't share direct evidence. What do. Hmm.

  • I have successfully re-hung the mozzie net over the bed. It fell down late last summer when the sticky 'removable' hook peeled off and I never bothered to re-do it. But it's done now albeit a few days too late. One of the major delay points is that it is very very difficult to buy just one cuphook. Packets of 25 or so, no problem, but just one? Impossible. Especially in Richmond or in the CBD. Not even Kmart sells them. So I've improvised with a long screw and a small butterfly nut filched from work put together arse end first. Might even be better than a cuphook as less subject to the mozzie net hanging ring sliding off in the breezes.

  • Made it down the bellarine.

It's been a few weeks since I've been down here and my heart sank when I saw all the weeding / mowing I have to do over the next few. This was never going to be an actual break. On the plus the chillies have enjoyed themselves with this weather so that's something.

    • Are you doing any tomatoes this season? Heard from my colleagues that theirs have exploded in size with the recent weather

      • Have 5 plants in and they seem pretty happy! Haven't had much luck in the last few years with tomatoes so not going to jinx it :)

  • Time to wind down now before making dinner.

Playing some Animal Crossing for that cosy feeling and put a movie on.

Going to make more chicken sandwiches tonight.
