Most libs are citing "Russian imperialism" and genuinely seem to believe that it is a colonial style war for territory. They believe that Russian forces are not significantly advancing because of the valor of Ukrainian fighter and not because conquering whole of Ukraine was not Russia's plan in the first place.
The rules based order started after America already conquered all of its territory, of course.

War conventions didn't apply to revolutions and counter revolutions until like the 70's, in all the conventions up to that point there was not a single mention of war crimes of colonialism/imperialism.
