- Significantly more, actually. Especially when you consider the social safety net that includes such things as universal health care, five weeks paid leave minimum, and 50 weeks paid parental leave.
  There's no way that the pittance being floated would cover a TENTH of that for a full year, let alone having your people and country molested by EXTREMELY under-regulated predatory corporations for all eternity while having no hope of achieving better conditions through political representation.

If he said “we will buy you out, and you can be your own country, but we get special rights to your land for mining and a military base” … they might want independence in spite of that. The fingers are crossed, of course, as he will fail to pass that property along to them after purchase.

That'd be about half a billion dollars overall. Crazy thing is with the massive unpopularity of being annexed, I think even with a $10k bribe most people would still be against it.
