My baby girl turned 18 today and she is going for her drivers licence. Please cross your fingers and toes for a good outcome. I'll let youse know in the afternoon. TIA. 🤞
Heaps of folks fail their first time on bullshit technicalities. I did, and even my driving instructor said the testers reason was complete bullshit and did my next test for free with me. Have a block of chocolate ready and some kind words just in case.
🤞🤞🤞
Wishing her clear roads and a smooth drive. You got this, YoungerCEO!
Good luck, CEO Employee #1!
Good luck little CEO!
🤞 no better feeling than turning 18 and the freedom being able to drive brings.
BS. your first solo maccas run is the best feeling!
🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
🍀🍀🍀
All appendages are crossed!
Wishing her good luck!
Update: She just missed out. She's in a good mood though and she'll give it another go in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the well wishes ❤️
Drats. She'll get it 2nd time around.
Learnable moment :)
Glad she hasn't let it bring her day down and now she's familiar with the test! Hooray for her giving it ago!!
I failed my first three 🤣 she'll be right
She's among excellent company, I failed my first test too. The nerves are much less second time around.
I failed my first test but had spent the test sweet talking the instructor about my medical volunteer work in Bihar, where the tester was originally from, so she passed me. My only failure was a stop sign but I was pulling into peak hour traffic jam so it's not like I blew through it, just pulled out and waited for traffic to let me in. Traffic was great around Carlton, everyone gave me heaps of room.
Some of the best drivers I know passed only after multiple rounds, and meanwhile I was a very anxious driver that took a whole year to start driving solo even after getting my Ls, but managed to barely pass the first time around. I really do think they took pity on me for my age though
Bummer CEO, I failed my first test as well, I didn’t even make it out onto the main road before I failed but I retook it and passed a few weeks later.
She’ll get it next time!
I made biscuits. They're not particularly pretty but they're highly delicious.
with real butterscotch 🤤
I can has new cat channel screen
looks like the Bat-Channel
We do get those, and the ruddy hungry possums
Another piccy from Nepal taken from slides that no one asked for:
I'm pretty sure that's namche baazar or maybe tengboche and everest top left.
First time seeing snow. Also remember buying a mars bar in namche for $5USD which hurt. Beers at the tea houses were like $0.50c at 4000m elevation lol. As a 13yr old it was great. I was blamed by the teachers on the trip for spearheading trips to tea houses. I was just following everyone else but they didn't believe me.
I'm asking for alllll of the photos, these are glorious!! Please keep sharing and the stories! Sounds like such a cool experience.
Got 3.5 hours of sleep in the end. Got that weird dry-eye dry-throat feeling from not having slept enough... Note to self no motivation brew today after 12 noon.
service desk teasing security for getting locked out of their account will never not be funny to me.
Anyone remember that guy from The Other Place who was pretty hard done by and had a bunch of kids and he and his wife found out another was on the way with, like, basically moments to go? I wonder how he's doing.
Yes, his username contained "g" or "gee" right and the number 2?
Edit: Removed link, but I believe the profile is geetwo_g2
That's the one, thank you!
I remember that, G 7 or something? Or was that the nickname for the child?
Spent quite a bit of time in hospital if I remember.
Sad to hear that the funds weren't used for the purpose people thought it was originally.
I wound up hiding that account. A bunch of people chipped in to help him with something specific and he spent the money on something else, then lined up to have another kid. Fuck's sake mate, wrap it up. Just felt they were always in a ditch and posting about all the digging they were doing to keep themselves there. e: I remember, it was "the snip" that people chipped in for.
yeah i mean accidents happen but its not hard to NOT have a kid. I wouldnt thought if your backs were to the wall the last thing youd be doing is ::: spoiler NSWF blowing in the mrs raw. :::
But thats just like my opinion I guess when I had spend 30k to have a kid.
TBF the vasectomy thing seems to have been a joke and the GFM does not mention a specific use of the funds (though it was reactivated for a second round of donations and not sure if the listing was edited). I'm not fully across the lore, I mostly skipped over it too.
I speak to him occasionally. He seems well enough
That's good to hear!
Good to hear. Was thinking about him and the kids the other day.
Speaking of people from the other place, there was someone who had just gotten an ADHD diagnosis, was on here for a bit in the beginning?
he was a really nice guy, i was quite shocked at how poor they were too, 😔
Going to treat myself to more frozen chips to air fry and some eggs.
Been a really shitty couple of days dealing with stuff, the least I can do is buy food for myself.
I love chip n egg.
Now I have 18 eggs due to the egg shortage :/
you seem like you could do with some hugs 😘😘
Oh I could have really used some, I almost asked for one today at work.
Take care Duenan :)
Thanks!
The man power walking through the house when he hears the garbos this morning. Priceless. The wife smugly says "I've already put it out". Priceless.
One way I can tell I'm enjoying, or at least tolerating, this new job is I've been here since January and I haven't felt the need to jump on Seek and just see what's around. That's impressive considering this is a mostly in office job, but it's close to home, the people there are chill, and I've been getting some actual results in the work I'm doing.
I was always passively looking at my old job at the more 'interesting' workplace, and same with the work form home job that sounded great on paper. I used Marketing Cloud in both of those roles and I feel like that was a big reason for me not liking both jobs.
They say people don't leave organisations, they leave managers. Maybe we should add shitty tools to the list of things people leave too.
Finished early because fuck it why not.
Fuck NAB. Time for a new bank.
Constant outages.
I left NAB as my main bank some time ago and my main bank is now Macquarie. They have great interest and allow multiple accounts with minimal fuss. However they are an online bank and don't accept cash or cheque deposits, so I generally do anything like that through the NAB transactions account and transfer it over.
I think it's a good idea to keep accounts with a few banks and have a little bit of emergency money in each one to cover you if there is an outage.
Also ditched NAB for Macquarie, mostly for the homeloan but works out great for personal stuff too.
More Nepal:
One of my faves, in this village one kid got so wasted he fell into the latrine on the way back from a tea house but it was so cold it was frozen solid. We were all wasted so pulling him out was an effort. His lucky day.
This was in Kathmandu and probably the most confronting thing we saw. Funeral pyre.
Yay!
ARGH. I give up, 3 hours of sleep really isn't enough to be able to force my brain to understand log transformations and regression curves all over again. I've taken hours to make some key amendments to other parts and make some notes... but once it hits 4pm I'm outta here. Try again tomorrow.
Probably also gotta accept the hit of $10 and toss out that juicy salmon fillet I bought on Saturday evening and didn't get around to making for some stupid reason (too busy making prawn curry on Sunday... too busy being a trash goblin on Monday and Tuesday). Boo. Whatever. Zzzz.
3 hours of sleep really isn’t enough to be able to force my brain to understand log transformations
12 hrs wouldn't help me so don't feel too bad :)
If only it were as simple as picking up a log and giving it a few chance meetings with a sharp blade.
Is it because it’s already turned bad, or because you won’t have time to cook it? Fish in foil is very quick if it’s still good
Edit: Ah yeah 5 days is a bit long
Yeah, it’s like being jet lagged without the fun travel bit
Totally. And I don't even have that much of a sense of satisfaction (like, it would be worth it if I made some major progress for all those hours, it's some but I realise it's the tip of the iceberg gah).
Ended up having one more crack at the plots and spat out something so at least I don't need to think about it so much tomorrow and can talk about it again with my supervisor in the afternoon.
I have a sinking feeling there will be a few more of these before I finally get that final round of "IT'S DONE" and go on some daylong bender on -6 hours of sleep
abc is psychic - fyi
Yar, I finally just got home after a long phone call in the car and that fish is going in the bin. Next time, I guess! Thanks for the extremely timely link.
(I'm so used to mostly cooking with vegetables that last a lot longer...)
Easiest call to Centrelink ever. I messed up the date of my partner's pay, so I had to call them to update it for my report.
Super simple stuff.
How long were you on hold? I dont think it was ever less than an hour when I had to call Cuntrelink
Only like 15 minutes on hold, suprisingly! They usually hang up on me straight away because of how busy they are or whatever lol!
I find calls to gov are either the worst or the best
I don't mind waiting on hold for hours tbh, I hate it more when centrestink hangs up on me straight away lol so happy that didn't happen this time.
It was like, 15min wait, and while the call itself took 30 minutes (had to upload the payslip to my centrestink and my partner's), it was very easy and the operator I spoke to was amazing.
Sometimes one lucks out with gov stuff, not often, but definitely sometimes haha
I heard a bad song in a meme and now wish to unlearn who Sabrina Carpenter is
FEELS. There's something very off putting about her.
So it’s not covid, I’m just lurgied. Okay
There's a doozy lurgy going around.
beach walk 🙂
What a gorgeous view!
Stupid insomnia. Boo 😒
I hear you :(
I've also run out of fruit which is my usual "wake up 10 times a night" snack.
Fruit’s a good idea. I had some up&go - read somewhere that low blood sugar makes it harder to stay asleep (but can’t be bothered eating)
How many fish fingers are too many? My personal limit is 8 to 10, but I am open to suggestions from the assembled audience. 8-10 provides plenty to be enjoyed with a variety of sauces, but doesn't weigh heavily on the stomach.
Been awhile since I’ve had fish sticks, I think I used to eat somewhere between 10-15 of them depending on size.
Tomato sauce or tartare sauce works for me.
Need to summon the will to cook food. Argh
🍝☕️
Thank you Chef!
Crack open a tin of fish and middle some fridge cheese like a normal human
I cooked!
headache
what is it? allergy, CO, bad posture when asleep ?
ears blocked
Sounds like me yesterday. For some reason the office reeked like burnt pizza.
That might have been because of the planned burned they did yesterday.
Was smokey out in the morning.
was smokey here all day , very smokey
hmm or a cold?
feels sort of like hayfever. Thought my ears arnt blocked just popping heaps.
I had a bit of a brainwave. The pet ramps and steps from Kmart aren’t great and the op shop didn’t have much destroyable that suited…
But Big W has a $180-ish recliner. It will be low quality and small and will get scratched up from brand new, but the leg support part could be walked up like a ramp. It’s something the old baby could easily get up and down from without jumping and hurting herself. I would pay that much for a cat tree if she could comfortably use it.
We’ll see. I’ll decide if there’s room and maybe sell the unwanted dishwasher and tv. Maybe I could sew some heavy duty fabric reinforcement over the sides to absorb the claws wrath.
If you have a TK Maxx nearby they seem to have pretty solid-looking pet steps quite cheaply.
They look good! I just thought a ramp would be easier
Man I wish I had the energy and space to build stuff suited for Melbcat. It’s sad that I haven’t been able to catify the crap out of this place for enjoyment in her golden years
I can't help with the energy but if you want to trek out to Springvale sometime I've a heap of tools and scrap wood.
Thanks, unfortunately energy is the biggest factor
I enjoyed thunderbolts. Sets things up nicely for the future as well. not sure about Iron Heart. Wakanda Forever left a pretty bad taste in my mouth in that respect.
Good fucking loooord
send his family too, they made him and support him still
too expensive. Just have him shot, wayyyyyy cheaper. And ideally if we just go for the leg or arm or something he'll bleed out nice and slowly.
Trying for 11 hours sleep. Will no doubt be back at 2am posting about how much insomnia sucks.
Night all ❤️
I’ll probably be awake then, too. Sigh. I’m so over not being able to sleep (well, I can eventually get to sleep but then keep waking up in the early hours, when all the thoughts are bad and everything’s a catastrophe).
Can’t wait for Friday night when I can take a Restavit
Totally forgot about restavit!
Hectic meeting done... I was told just as the meeting started that it was going to be cut from 2 hours down to 1 because my supervisor needed to meet another student. Given how little of an f I've been giving about this project, I can't be too mad that he's prioritising people with actual research, but it still stings a bit to be reminded how low on the totem pole I am when most of this research experience has been an opportunity for my brain to ramp up the usual "you are not as smart as you thought you were lol" messaging. That's on me though heh.
Anyway, I get a second opportunity to chat to him tomorrow which is probably better given that I wrote all that stuff yesterday but didn't create the main figures that we'd actually need to focus on... (and which I can create today).
After all this is done I'm tempted to go volunteer in a plant nursery and tune out the world for a good month...
e: current distraction is following the votes in Goldstein. Tim Wilson's lead is narrowing! From 500-something down to 300 in a few days. Maybe those postal votes aren't as easy to predict as before. Still don't think Zoe will win but it won't be a decisive victory for Tim either.
Also following that super thin margin in Bradfield (NSW).
That second coffee is reeeeee-heeeeelly making life difficult for me now... nearly 4 am and I'm still going woohoo....
On the other hand, I've got a VERY fleshed out methods section with five tables and so many sections, and a lot of help from ChatGPT turning dot points into better-structured text.
I really ought to stop now dammit.
The modem has arrived, so I should be able to set up the internet and security cameras tomorrow.
Today I will pack lots of stuff in the van so I can go up early tomorrow. I want to get some cleaning done, probably mopping the floors, cleaning out the dirt in the door channels and the outside of the windows at a minimum. Plus a quick vacuum of the carpeted areas. If I can get a few more things assembled as well it would be good - I might leave the bedside tables until last, given I can use the box they are in temporarily.
Edit: even better, there is 4G backup in the modem, so I've been able to start the camera settup today and set up the new wireless passwords etc.
My Stardew Valley farm so far.
Ah… maybe the extra pain relief yesterday was a bad idea. Melbcat was in a fair bit of pain through the night because after she’d had it she felt able to jump up and down from the chair which aggravated her arthritis.
I might put something on the chair so she can’t until I get the pet steps
Adidas got a big sale on. 50 bucks for a decent pair of speakers isnt too bad in this economy.
Boo. Currently in the mood to cuddle the cats, except that they hate being picked up, and I'm virulently allergic.
