FRIDAY MOVIE NOMINATION FOR SEPTEMBER

The only good streaming service

MOVIE time again. How is this year passing so fast? This is bullshit, i barely wasted this year at all. Anyways...

Voting open for the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, & 29th. Taking top voted nominates (depending on piracy success) for two movies each Friday. Maybe a third if it fits the theme or is really good/bad.

Pre-hosted nominations get extra weight becuase its less work. Dubs preferred over subs because Cytube is indignent about playing subtitle files without heavy cajoling. If it’s currently in theaters or on a streaming service its usually an pain in the ass to find a good torrent in time, but ill look for it anyways because fuck copyright.

Godzilla (1954) - It's Godzilla. Let's watch it. The original, not the one with Raymond Burr. It has Godzilla in it.

Akira, I missed it last year (or two years ago? idk)

Django (1966) - considered one of the best Spaghetti Westerns ever made.

Happy Together (1997) - Wong Kar-wai's stylish saga of a couple who make a not-so-romantic getaway to Argentina. Extremely well-regarded, and ranked #216 on Letterboxd's Top 250.

Rope (1948) - Classic Alfred Hitchcock movie about heterosexuality and straight people. Hitchcock's most hetero movie and one of the not-gayest movies ever made. Also it's made to look like it was all done in one take, which is pretty cool. Also it's Hitchcock's first color film, and it uses color really well.
- Also loosely inspired by a true story.

The Sting (1973) - Classic heist film, very fun movie

  idk lol. I haven't been in hextube since day one. i missed Akira and Evangelion, for example, which I'm still sore about!

The Northman

  Well we should do new movies first, but we've done a bunch of reruns recently so if trends continue I want to watch the Northman again

Collateral (2004) - A Michael Mann film starring Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise. They're really good at their jobs. Tom Cruise has white hair and says "Yo homie" at one point.

Last Night in Soho (2021) -- Anya Taylor-Joy goes back in time to 1960s New York and the timeline starts going out of whack. From Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead:

Yes, Madam! (1985) - Michelle Yeoh's first big movie, where she teams up with Cynthia Rothrock to do cool as hell action scenes and wear amazing 80s outfits. Also has Tsui Hark doing physical comedy in a crazy apartment. Incredibly fun movie.

Kagemusha (1980, by Kurosawa) - A petty thief with an utter resemblance to a samurai warlord is hired as the lord's double. When the warlord later dies the thief is forced to take up arms in his place.

The Babadook (2014) - Well-regarded spooky movie about a child’s bogeyman who starts to haunt the mom, too.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) - Nicolas Roeg's other classic 70s movie, about David Bowie as a literal alien who falls to Earth and learns life there.

Frankenstein (1931) - another essential Universal Monster film that actually came out the same year as Dracula.

An Autumn Afternoon (1962) - Yasujiro Ozu's last movie. It's really good.

New Jack City (1991) - I don't know what this movie is or what it's about but it's got Wesley Snipes and Ice T and it looks pretty sick so let's watch it. I think it's the source of that meme with Wesley Snipes crying with that gun.

The Devils (1971) - One of the essential horror films of the 1970s. Currently ranked #240 on Letterboxd's Top 250 films of all time:

Rio Bravo (1959) - One of John Carpenter’s favorite films, this Howard Hawks classic is a pinnacle of the Western genre.

Floating Weeds (1959) - A beautiful movie directed by Yasujiro Ozu. Roger Ebert's favorite movie.

Thunderheart (1992) - Val Kilmer is an FBI agent sent to a South Dakota reservation, because he's part Sioux, to track down a Leonard Peltier stand in and investigate a murder. Graham Greene shows up and they learn more about the governments role.

Wheels on Meals (1984) - Jackie Chan

Frances Ha (2012) - Greta Gerwig (director of Barbie) stars as an aspiring dancer who finds herself on the ass-end of showbiz.

To Live and Die In LA (1985) - Since William Friedkin passed away last month, we should watch one of his movies. It’s about 2 secret service agents going after a counterfeiter.

King of New York (1990) - Abel Ferrara directed this movie with Christopher Walken, Lawrence Fishburne, David Caruso, Wesley Snipes, Steve Buscemi and a lot of other great actors. Very fun and cool movie.

  Wait, Independence Day would be great! And that one where harrison ford is the president and soviet nationalists take over air force one.
