My husband works at an architecture firm. They exclusively use #2 in 3 different colors. My husband has gotten in the habit of putting a few in his pocket during the day while he works and emptying his pockets when he gets home. We have WAY TOO MANY PENS!!!! I've been bagging them up and giving them away!! They are nice pens tho... very good for drafting/drawing/etc. I just don't need 300 of them. Beware that the blue ones tend to explode the most.
- Oh my god, the explosions with the black ones are horrible, because you don't realize until you start to grip and the ink just coats your fingers. I love them, but the horror will live forever in my mind.
- I had a pen like that when I was very young, had to be maybe in the 5th grade. It exploded on me because I chewed on the end of it while thinking. Parts of my homework desk remained blue until I graduated high school, I'm lucky my teeth didn't also.

- It's probably the choice I would have to go with, but when I was working with full boxes a lot, I started caring more about which pens were sturdy sharp enough to stab through tape and drag through it 50 times an hour and not end up looking at the end of your pen and find out the tip ripped off. Switching to a box knife over and over slows you down a lot and I needed the pen to cross out and document what was missing from the orders. Pens with caps are a pain for that as well, waste time.

  I used to have a need to open things a lot while on the other side of a security barrier (and metal detector.) I ended up getting a Gerber Shard to carry around on my keychain. Does most of my multitool, prying and even knife jobs without being sharp enough to get taken by TSA (or rent-a-cop or whomever.)

not pictured, but uniball eye micro was my goat for high school and college. I had to do british standardized exams in high school which required black pen (not pencil). these guys write super smoothly and create really nice lines, but they take a sec or two to dry so you gotta be careful not to smudge.

  I love lending out Frixion Clickers out to my DnD friends and seeing them struggle with the click before they realise that the pocket clip is the thing that goes click.
- When I taught tertiary anatomy to sports science students. The school's stationary cabinet was a box of lost pens that the cleaners added to. The school wasn't great. Rather than buy new pens, we were to take from the box. I knew I wasn't being renewed next year so I came in on the holidays and took every four pen in that box. About fifteen of them. It's seen me good for for pens for about 13 years now. I still have a bunch kicking around. Mostly green/red left, but I use those to mark my ToDo lists with completed and delayed entries.
  I wish they sold cheap refills for the 4-pens but when I looked I could only find ones around the same cost as a new pen.

The Bic Pilot G2 in 1mm writes like butter. Glorious. $4.95 for a 4 pack.

7 BIC or bust
- 7 is the the type of pen that lasts me the longest. They seem indestructible. All other types disintegrate in my hands after a year or so.

2, the Pilot Precise, specifically a V5
- This was the only pen I could use as a left handed writer that wouldn’t leave any ink on my hand.
- I'd go for the Pilot Vball, but close enough.
- Have you used one recently? I used to love those but they don't work as well as I remember when I've tried them in the past few years

Honestly those of us who've bought 1 or 2 already main those. I'll never by another pen, the writing quality of the Uniball is just superb. The plastic grip isn't uncomfortable like you'd think, and rubber grips tend to feel weird after lots of writing anyways. The build quality is top notch, as someone who's accidentally broken lots of pens. Just a great design

- Definitely this one. Simple design and the fine point is so smooth to write with

  when you write left-handed you push the nib into the paper rather than dragging it. left-handed pens have angled tips so the nib still drags.

None. Pens fucking suck. There are limited use cases for pens, which is basically none unless I am signing a contract.
For every single other use case I’d rather have a mechanical pencil.

1 and 2 look good but looks are deceiving. 5 and 7 all the way.
- I like 1 because it's thin and not a roller type. You only have to imagine writing and you're doing it. Rollers can be ok, and 5 is a decent example, but 1 used with a ruler for precise drawing, nothing beats that.
  
  For me one looks like it would be very nice, but it’s just too loose when it comes to writing and the ink smudge is really easily from what I remember. My dad had them all around the house because they look very business like but I don’t really remember enjoying writing with them.
- I would've agreed with you 13 years ago, but something changed with the pilot G2s. They went from S tier to B at best. Ironically, I've replaced them with 2 now. The Pilot Precision's have been my favorite for quite awhile now personally

- Surprised I had to scroll down so far to find 3, it's just the same as 5 but with better grip around the finger tips, which avoids the pen from twisting when you hold it tightly.

1 & 2 top picks, then 6 & 7. The rubber sleeves are nice for short notes and whatnot. They get slippery from sweating eventually. Maybe just a me thing.

Pilot G2 and BIC are both classics, but I'm a sucker for a liquid ink pen

I'd pick 7 if it's a Bic, but it's definitely n.3 because of the ergonomics

I would pick 3 but I don't think its ball point and I have trouble controlling the strength when I press down on the paper.

  Thanks, I think it's one of my best looking pens. The VP isn't a VP, it's a MoonMan A1. I'm not sure if it's made by Majohn or not, but it is super similar to their A1 and A2 if it's not. Writes well, good seal. For under $30. Highly recommend.

I have taken a liking to the Pilot B2Ps, they are made of recycled water bottles, I liked them simply for the fact that they're the one type of pen we have in abundance at the office that no one else bothers to steal for some reason.
I like the Staples TRU RED series too.

I write a lot (I am professor) and pilot g-2 (#5) is the way to go. Don't be fooled by sharpie's grip, I just finished a box of that model in red ink and g-2 is way better.

  Was a committed G2 guy for YEARS (ultra fine all the way). But I’m a lefty, so ink smears were still a problem (though the G2 is better than most on that front). Then I learned about the Sarasa Dry pens from Zebra. The ink dries INSTANTLY, and writes like a G2. But they’re hard to find so I always stock up when I see them.

Okay. I’ve used all of these and 3 definitely writes the best and is the most comfortable, BUT, I’ve had more of these fail or explode halfway through a cartridge multiple times.
So I have to pick my good old 5 will carry me through battle and back and I’ll lose it long before it stops writing. Never had a bad time with a 5.
